I suggest checking with the US embassy in India about dcf requirements

Agree.

i think it’s not normally spelt out because normally the reason for doing DCF somewhere is that it is where the spouse and beneficiary are both residing, and that is typically the beneficiary’s home country.

Another thing.. the "marriage based visa" alluded to in the original post refers to an Immigrant visa.. initiated with the i-130 petition.. that triggers US permanent residency upon entry. He needs to be absolutely certain that he intends to make the US his permanent home by living and working in the US.

10/18/2017.......... I-751 package received VSC

10/30/2017.......... Notice received in mail

10/30/2017.......... Check cashed

Yes - my husband will move to the US as soon the green card/visa to enter the US comes in.

I will move in earlier to the US. I just want to ensure that I don't need to stay in India (as I will file from there) during the entire process.

I need some suggestions on how to go about filing taxes in the US now as I have never had any income there.

I used this to do my prior years taxes https://www.freetaxusa.com/ and print them out from Cambodia to mail to the IRS via fedex.

I had to catch up on 4 years I lived outside of the USA for the entire time. Not sure for years before 2011 as I don't think the program goes back further. If it was me I would just print out the forms I needed for 2010 and earlier and use 2011 as a guide to where numbers go. Once one year is done the rest are intuitive.

If you made under a certain amount it is not taxed by using form 2555. Currently, it is $103,900

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f2555ez.pdf

After I sent the taxes in I was able to get my tax transcripts when I requested them a few months later.

So, you are planning to move to the US permanently? Have you started researching jobs, apartments, etc? Some embassies are stricter than others on domicile.
