I filed in Feb to adjust from F1 to a green card through marriage to a US Citizen.

My current status is "case is ready to be scheduled for an interview", which I'm hoping means I don't have to worry about an RFE. Haven't done my I693 yet, but I think I'll wait until my interview is scheduled.

Unfortunately, no movement on my EAD. :(

UPDATE

I attended my Biometric appointment yesterday at the Harlingen, Texas field office. My appointment was at 3pm, and I arrived at 2:40pm. There was no line outside. I proceeded through security and was directed to the biometric waiting area. I was the only person there, along with one employee. I was out and back home before 3pm.

No movement on EAD or AP for me either. But this morning I was thrilled to receive the Interview Appointment letter!! It came much sooner than anticipated. Neither myuscis.gov or egove status changed from "Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview."

Very nice! When is your interview?

No real changes here, other than getting 4(!) "we are still working on your case" emails this last week.

May 20. Still getting text and email updates that say " we are still reviewing your case and will notify you when you status changes", so those updates have been useless in my case.

Hi everyone,

I don't think there has been a February 2019 AOS filers discussion thread yet so I thought I'd create one. I filed I-485/I-130 concurrently, as well as an EAD and AP application. My local field office is Santa Ana, CA and I'm adjusting from an F1 visa.

Here's my timeline so far:

  • USCIS Received Date:
    • 19 Feb 2019
  • Biometrics Appointment:
    • 18 March 2019

A parallel thread in the main "AOS from WS&T Visas" forum has been moved to this Case Progress subforum and merged with the existing thread.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

How'd the interview go @junkmart? Hope it went well!

No immigration related updates, but I got a job offer from someone my PI did some work with. Looks like I'm moving which makes me very nervous about getting notices etc!

Thank you for asking, It was easier than expected. I will post the experience this morning.

Interview Experience

Our interview appointment was Monday, 5/20/19 at 12pm. We arrived around 11:30am. We presented our invitation to a friendly officer outside the door who then allowed us to proceed to security. There was no line. After being screened through security, we proceeded to the waiting room for interviews. The room was approximately 50% full. We presented our interview letter at the check-in window and were asked to take a seat. About 10 till 12 our attorney showed up. Then we waited. Our attorney spoke to other attorneys in the waiting room and leaving the interview office area. She was told by another attorney that we were on the list for a particular IO who was running about one hour behind schedule. At about 1:15, the IO appeared at the door and called my husband's name. She was friendly and all smiles. She and our attorney chatted as we walked to her office. She swore us in and asked us to take a seat. She asked my husband for his visa and my DL. We had our passports, birth certificate, my SSC, etc but she didn’t ask for those. She put my husband's visa in her top desk drawer. She asked if we had any bonafides. I had a binder I had prepared, but my attorney had some of the evidence from my binder, and handed a prepared packet with cover letter and TOC to the IO. The IO placed it in her folder without looking at anything. She then explained that she would quickly work through the applications. She had all of them, I130, I130a, I485, I864, I693. As she worked through them, she would punch them and place them in her folder. She asked my husband where we met. That led to a discussion among her and our attorney about Tindr, and how some IO’s didn’t understand the current culture of meeting online with very little in person interaction, but that she (the IO) didn’t think anyone should be judged for how they met their loved on our their relationship. The IO returned to the question of where we met, and clarified that what she meant was where we first met in person. We named the restaurant. The IO stamped APPROVED on one application while checking off things with red pen, followed by more stamping and writing. She didn’t really ask any investigative questions whatsoever. She and our attorney did most of the talking to each other. We were over-prepared, as we were not asked any of the questions we were expecting, nor were we asked for originals of any documents or for additional evidence from our binder. IO said we should get the green card in a week or so. That was it. Super easy, very friendly people. Our attorney did ask the IO if my husband could get the I551 stamp so that we could travel north from the border zone to San Antonio for Memorial Day, but the IO said they were no longer allowed to give the stamp. We returned home, anxiously waiting for a text or email update. None ever came, but this morning I logged into the old status update egov, and both the I-130 and I-485 said case approved! New website still says case received. Side note, While we waited for our interview, everyone who came out had big smiles, some were greeted by smiling loved ones, and even a few claps and cheers. Overall it was a pleasant experience.

Congratulations! I'm so happy it went well. :) My husband and I met on grindr haha, we had wondered if we should tell a more "respectable" meeting story, but we figured it was best to be 100% honest (also it is actually a sweet story on an otherwise terrible app)!

Hoping your card comes in soon. :)

@NguoiVietNam yes, same here - hoping that we all get our cards soon. It seems like the dates go back and forth a little bit on the processing times tab. Are you applying for an expedite, by any chance?

Thank you! When we mentioned we met on Tindr, the IO clarified that what she meant was where did we meet in person for the first time. You don't even have to mention Grindr if you don't want to. What we learned from the interview is to listen to the questions very carefully, and provide only short minimal answers. If the IO wants to know more, they will ask. Update today said card was mailed. Cant wait to get it and get going with life!
