The Irish often have special visa options as well.  The J visas have lots of different categories...it's the ones around cultural exchanges that are most likely to carry the 2 year rule.

@Cathi So you're saying there's a way we could get him a permit to work quicker? Can you please give some more info on this or send a link? Sorry I'm completely new to this but really appreciate the help.

No, she was saying that if you marry and he chooses to go home while his green card is processed, that then he would receive a stamp in his passport that works as a temp green card once he enters after 12-15 months. She was just clarifying my post, because I missed the part about actually receiving the stamp (which is just as good as a green card) upon entry, no need to wait weeks after arrival. There's no way to speed up the green card process, unless you're enlisted in the military and called to serve as far as I'm aware.

 

There is a potential way to speed up EAD however, if he has a job offer and they need him to start asap, he might be able to expedite the EAD. No guarantees though.
