License still says “Limited Term” just got my 2 year GC

Hi,

I went to renew my license after my AOS was approved. I got my license back and it still says limited term on it ( I am in Texas). Is this normal for people with conditional residence? I thought I was supposed to receive one for at least a few years.

Thanks

Yes, it is normal. Everything is based on your status. What evidence you gave them to renew your license? Have you received your  physical GC?

I gave them my physical 2 year GC. I noticed that my GC has a mistake due to USCIS error with the dates after I had applied for my license. I just was curious would it still say limited term on it even though I have my GC.

Yes. Just like your green card is limited term. You should get the error on the GC fixed immediately. Having wrong dates can lead to other problems down the road. Seen it before.

The reasoning behind this is because you are a conditional permanent resident. This means there are certain conditions you are under during these two years. And it is possible to loose your permanent resident in 2 years. Because of this, an agency is not going to issue a DL that is indefinite.

Thanks. I know I will be sending in my GC this week for the error replacement.

Thats weird because I talked to a few people that live in Texas and they went to DPS with their 2 year conditional GC and got their license renewed for 6 years and with out the “Limited Term” on it. I will go to my local DPS Monday and see what’s up before I send my card off that day.

Thanks

A few years ago we had the same wording on Driver Licenses, Solution: Went back to DPS and told them license was lost, they re issued a new DL and the wording was no longer on there

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

Hmmmm... i will go to dps Monday morning and ask about it. Also when you got it was it with a 2 year conditional card or not ?

When we got it was on the 2 year GC, had wording similar to your but a little different this was a few years ago, I personally didn't like the wording on the DL.  By happen stance she lost her DL and we had to get another, we the new one was mailed to us it no longer had the information on the DL regarding limted or whatever it said.
