New Social Security Card?

Hello. I was approved for a replacement SSC after I was approved for initial EAD which had a restriction of “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.”

 

Do I need to go back to SSA office and apply for the non restricted SSC and give them my current SSC? I am a PR now.

Yeah I went in Tuesday to get that done quick and easy just don’t surrender the current card till you get new one in the mail

Won't SSA ask for me to surrender my current SSC to get the unrestricted one?

I thought there was a process with SSA to replace it to unrestricted SSC when the beneficiary becomes a PR? I mean this must be very common right?

Leave your old SS card at home.   

 

Apply for the new SS card.  

 

When I replaced my SS card after naturalization, I was not asked for my old card.

Ok so I don’t need to give them back my current SSC?

 

SSC for PR and USC are same with no restrictions.

My wife is Burmese. I’m Canadian.  

 

And thus the best Burmese food in the Bay Area is in my house.  

 

Seriously though have just eaten at Burma Bistro in Santa Clara and Burma Ruby in Palo Alto.  Never heard of Mandalay restaurant. Looks good. It’s an effort to go to SF. Will try it when she gets homesick.

SSC for PR and USC are same with no restrictions. 

Technically when you convert from green card to USC, you are supposed to notify the SSA and get a new card.  That’s what they told us at the oath ceremony.  So that is what I did.  

 

My first SS card was issued when when I was on an I-20, and it never had any restrictions listed on it (those came on SS cards a few years later).  So I never replaced it after getting my first green card. And in those days one went from married directly to permanent residency without EAD.
