So now we are on the AOS part of this journey.

Does anyone here have a current list of all documentation required for the AOS interview, or know where I might find a link to this information?

I know I need to show the usual original documentation like birth certificate, driving license, marriage certificate, photos and some joint bills but what about health insurance? Is that mandatory as I do not currently have cover.

I appreciate that the AP/EAD combo card will take between 3 - 6 months from now and the actual I485 AOS interview / Green card considerably longer but I like to be prepared. To be honest I am more interested in getting the combo card than the green card at this point, so that I can work!

Mailed our AOS package out today! I look forward to joining you all in biting our nails for the next 9-23 months.

The woman at the post office was familiar with filing stuff for USCIS and she gave me a great tip: send it by certified mail and use the online tracking tool, then when it arrives, take a screenshot showing when it arrived and who signed for it, print it, and put it with the spare copy of the AOS package. She said that helped her recover a "lost" package at USCIS!

Sent my docs for the AOS, EAD and AP on Friday and they arrived today according to UPS.  By the sounds of things it will be a few days at least before I hear from the USCIS!!  Anyone else in the Charlotte area currently in this process?

Quick question--my husband applied for his social security card on friday, February 22nd. He's checking every day but so far it hasn't come. I should be able to pick up the marriage certificate tomorrow (last thing we are waiting for to file). If his SS number doesn't come by Thursday, should we file everything anyway and just leave that blank? Will it cause an issue?  Hoping it comes. He needs that to apply for his learner's permit too so he is EAGER....

But no worries, as long as the EAD/AP for my husband arrives, hopefully in less than 6 months, then we should be good!

I asked that question recently too, and the consensus was -- Don't Wait!!!

File as soon as you can, to get the ball rolling. The SS number itself isn't required for submitting the application, so get your application in process now so that your clock can start. Otherwise you're really just delaying yourself for no reason.

My husband's SS carder took 5 weeks to finally come in, and you really don't want to be waiting that long.

Wow! Five weeks?!?! Did they give a reason? Was there an issue? It says online you can contact them after three weeks. The guy at the office said two weeks, so starting exactly two weeks in he was basically camped out at the mailbox every day lol. I think he's just holding on to this as the next step and every day feels like forever. But I hope it's not five weeks! He might cry lol

Oh dang. That was long. I've never waited that long for my SS. I had them sent me twice. Once for when I applied it and the updated one when I got married and changed my name. Got both of them about a week after I went to the ss office.

Hi, everyone!

First time posting at Visa Journey, and I'm glad to be in a group that's going through a similar situation as I am. Spouse and I filed for AOS on the 2nd of March, and the application got to the Lockbox on the 4th. Checks have been cashed in yesterday, and now we await the I-797C.
