Submit I-130 in Chicago, then ask for DCF in foreign country and re-apply if given job offer. Acceptable?

Generally a consulate/embassy will not accept a DCF filing if another I-130 from the same petitioner is pending.

That's depressing. It's really a shame that they got rid of DCF for the vast majority of international applicants.

It's almost like you're punished for doing your research ahead of time, rather than waiting for an offer and only then looking into the green card procedures.

I guess the best call is to file now the normal way, and then if a job does turn up, hope that they'll be willing to accept our local filing. If not, I'll have to turn down the job and hunker down.

Yes, it is a shame...and more and more USCIS offices abroad are closing, supposedly due to low application volume.

I think this is really the only thing you can do. If they accept your case, great! If not, that's just how US immigration works unfortunately. You mentioned your wife is Chinese in a previous thread? That's one of the few countries that has multiple USCIS field offices....too bad you guys aren't living there. Regardless, at least you can be together during the process....many couples have to be apart for the entire spousal visa process until POE.
