Petitioner’s original birth certificate required for interview?

Hi there,

My fiancé is about to attend his visa interview in Lagos, Nigeria but I still haven’t been able to get a clear answer on whether or not he needs to bring my original birth certificate with him. Does anyone know if he needs to have this for his interview?

Hoping I won’t need to mail it as that would make me extremely nervous...

Thanks,

Cat

If they do, it will be listed on the required documents list from the consulate.  Most do NOT.

YMMV

https://ng.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/fiancee-visa/the-interview/ doesn't mention it, but it says you should've got instruction packet from the consulate so follow what is there.

Use these links to find your answer. Start with the P3 letter link.

Scheduling the interview can take 1 to 3 months. Once you pay the $265 visa fee at GTB Bank, you can go online to schedule an appointment at www.ustraveldocs.com You can get the forms online at http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visa_forms.html No need to go to the consulate to pick up forms. Download forms if unexpired or get current versions of same forms. Email LagosIV@state.gov for your interview date.

Yes, unfortunately the packet isn't clear about whether both birth certificates are necessary. It just says to bring original documents included in the initial K1 application packet. I ended up getting a notarized copy of my BC and mailing that - hopefully that will be enough.

Thanks for your reply. I don't think it is necessary from all the research I've done either, but I wanted to see if anyone knew for sure because it isn't clear if both original BCs are necessary at an interview or just his.
