US tourist visa revoked

On 5th of last month I got US tourist visa for 10 years. During my interview I told some artificial things to interviewer.

I was planning to travel next month but on 22nd Jan I received a call at my home landline. The person on the other end claimed to be calling from US embassy and said my visa has been cancelled because someone from my circle has sent them an email and wrote that I told them lie during my interview.

The caller also said that they did some digging and found that the things that written in email are true so based on that they are cancelling my visa.

I have not yet received any letter/email and neither they have asked me to visit them for putting cancellation stamp on my Visa.

Now my question is that is this normal thing to happen ? Can embassy cancel visa like this on mere phone call ? What if I try to travel and my visa has really been revoked ?

Is there any official way from where I can check status of my visa?

I am worried and don’t know what to do

Please guide....

Not sure where you are but yes I have heard of the US embassy calling to inform that a tourist visa has been cancelled or revoked after issuance. Unfortunately that’s a consequence of lying on visa forms/to a consular officer during interview. You may or may not have a ban in place, but certainly it will be difficult to get a new B visa.

Have you emailed the embassy?  There is a chance you now have a lifetime ban for misrepresentation.....

BTW, I have heard of the embassy calling to inform people of revoked visas.....

By the way they don’t need to stamp a physical stamp on the visa. If it’s cancelled it will be entered in the computer systems as such. I guess you can try CEAC to check, but I don’t know if that’s ever updated for a revocation after issuance. Status updates are not always reliable on CEAC.

What lies were told? If they find that this was a case of material misrepresentation not only will your visa be cancelled but you will be banned from traveling to the United States.

You should call or email the embassy so you can find out what your situation is.

Ever hear that honesty is the best policy?  It is true in life and not just to get visas.

If you don't get a lifetime ban you can try again in many years.  But you will always have to disclose that you had a revocation /denial.

It would show up when you went to check in at the Airport.

Getting a visitor visa by lying is a BIG deal.  Sounds like your visa was rightly revoked.  This type of behavior makes it difficult for legitimate tourists from around the world to obtain visitor visas.

B. Willful Misrepresentation

Inadmissibility based on willful misrepresentation requires a finding that a person willfully misrepresented a material fact. [2] For a person to be inadmissible, the officer must find all of the following elements:

The person procured, or sought to procure, a benefit under U.S. immigration laws;

The person made a false representation;

The false representation was willfully made;

The false representation was material; and

The false representation was made to a U.S. government official, generally an immigration or consular officer. [3]

Yes....and it pretty much guarantees that He/She won't be visiting the US for a long, long time.

There is no need for them to do any of those things. They can cancel it in the system. They don't need to physically mark the visa or send you a letter or email. Sometimes they do, but the lack of any such notice does not mean they haven't done so.

If you try to travel and the visa is no longer valid, they would likely catch it at the time of of checking in.

Worst case is it's not caught until CBP in the US. You might be both turned around and issued an expedited removal (not that it means much if you have a misrepresentation bar).

If material to visa issuance then rightfully revoked.

It's rightfully revoked either way IMO.

There's a permanent bar for misrepresentation if it was willful and material as well.
