Finland's universal basic income trial finds giving unemployed people money didn't help them back to work

In my own experience, looking at people who come into an unexpected sum of money, I have seen it work both ways. Some people continue to work, even work harder and become motivated to work towards something bigger. Others start planning early retirement.

I know the study was design to look at several factors, only one of which was how basic income would affect getting back to work when one was unemployed. Intuitively, it would seem it would not get people back to work faster. I'm not sure an experiment was really necessary to deduce that. I would think the data was probably further skewed by selecting people who were all unemployed to begin with, since it would probably make sense that there would be at least some preexisting bias against "work" or possibly reduced ability or skills needed for work in this population when compared to selecting a random sampling of the entire population.
