Hey guys,

I got to the states December 29th and today we went to get a SSN but the lady in the desk told us I cant apply for one without first filing the I-765 form. We are getting married in 3 weeks.

So I’m so confused and lost because after reading comments about this topic I thought I could get a SSN before marrying but now that she said I can’t, I don’t know if we should wait after we are married or just try again next week... 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

You can.  Get a different SS clerk next time and bring in your US fiance to browbeat him/her to submission.

Round-file him/her with the idiot who told me I couldnt apply for a replacement SS card while I’m in another state.

I left her in tears of frustration (there is no better feeling than leaving a pompous government employee in her place) and got my application in at the same time.  It was great.

A restricted SS card is issued with an EAD as well.

The only way to get an unrestricted card is with a green card or US citizenship.

Ah, thank you for the correction!
