Administrative Processing after visa approval

Well, last week we were so excited because my fiancées visa was approved in Caracas, Venezuela. As of today she has not yet received her and her son’s passports. When she called the embassy today, she was told it was now in administrative processing to check for documents. WHAT??? We got to this point without any issues and now it is in administrative processing? Why? How long will this take? We had plans for them to travel to America next Wednesday! I see it can take anywhere from 10 days to 2 months?????? To complicate things further, her passport expires in September,  so she says if she does not travel in January she will have to apply for an extension for their passports, which can take another two months! Doesn’t the visa have an expiration date on it??? So frustrated. 😢

sorry but AP is a black hole, normally all AP cases are resolved in 60-90 days, but it could be days, weeks, months even years.

 

just have to be patent, the visa when issues will have an expiration date of 6 months from the date of the medical.

 

did they keep the passports? if so this is a good sign.

 

keep an eye on the CEAC when it changes from immigrant to nonimmigrant that means the visa is in process of being made.

there is nothing you can do to expedite it, I am sorry I hope she gets it to travel next week, hopefully you didn't already purchase tickets.

First of all, calm down. It had only been 5 minutes since your first post.

 

Second of all, there are two types of AP: the "black hole" AP which is the well-known one where they do background check or name check or whatever else check and that the type that take weeks, months, years, and no one knows when it's done. The second type is just the paperwork it takes between the interview and the visa is actually issued. There are lots of stuff happening between the interview and when the visa is printed and affixed on the passport. There are paperwork the CO has to fill out. I imagine different level of people have to approve a visa (CO, his supervisor, section chief, who knows what else). Even after the visa is printed, affixed on the passport, they have to do QC to make sure the visa read right on the machine that the CBP use at the POE otherwise it's useless. All of that takes time and all of that is also called AP. And then if someone is on vacation for a week, or the visa machine is out of ink and they have to ship the special secret ink from the US and it takes 2 weeks to get there. I don't know , there are all sort of things. Also, yours is not the only case they work on. There are hundreds and hundreds of visa a Post approve in a working day, both immigrant and non-immigrant.

Yup everyone goes through AP of some kind.

 

Ours was 2 or 3 days while they finalized some paperwork on their end.

 

Some, as mentioned get stuck for 2-3 weeks, 2-3 months, and even some 1+ years. Been a couple cases of this on VJ here where people were at 18+ months.

 

For you it's probably a brief process so just relax and try to be patient at this point.

Nothing of significance that I'm aware of........hopefully, it will change to "issued" soon.

I was told when it changes from immigrant to nonimmigrant vida it means the visa is being printed.

Have you seen the news from Venezuela? The embassy is cancelling all visa appointments until further notice due to the country's situation. 

 

The embassy is open but I'm not sure if there will be some kind of delay on visas issuance... 

 

I really hope you have not booked the flights yet... this is not a new situation, from the beginning of the years we venezuelans knew things were going to be agitated back home.

Maduro said that, the US and the new president didn't listen because well, he no longer have any authority to command anything.
