Ahh takes me back to the old Microsoft paint days. I would not send that to the government lol. I assume this "editing" was a paid service.

If they charged extra for the "editing", that's just criminal...

You should seriously consider showing this company the actual guidelines from US Department of State that say no doctored photos and ask for your money back.

Already planned on it. Thx

My fiance recently went to purchase a number of hard copy photos along with a digital copy for the DS-160. She had a nice collared polo shirt on, but they insisted on adding a digital shirt on the photos 🙄🙄. They thought doing so appeared "more formal". I think it was entirely unnecessary, and they did a terrible job. There is a obvious editing blur on the photos.

Is this going to be a problem? On one hand it seems benign enough, but It also seems to me that a photo for legal purposes shouldn't show blatant evidence of being doctored 🤷‍♂️.

Oh this doesn't surprise me at all with the Philippines because they want everything to look so formal. This is normal because the pictures will be used on a CV or some type of job/visa application for working abroad.

Just go somewhere else and get the pictures without the formal setup.

Correct.  Editing in a formal shirt is a standard service offered by many photo studios in the Philippines.  That's because many companies and some embassies require people to have their photos taken wearing business attire.  The edit is not even done by hand.  There's software that adds the shirt like a photo frame or border (hence the lousy quality).  You even get to pick the color of the shirt 😆

Did your girlfriend say the photos are for US visa application?  If not, she should have.  If she did and the shop still insisted on editing the photo, then that was a really lousy shop.

For my visa photo, I was very paranoid about getting it right, so I went to a studio with a "US Visa" package.  The photographer was very familiar with the photo requirements.  He even had to re-take my photo a few times because "ma'am, you're smiling too much" 😆

Yes it will be a problem, photos can not be edited .. stated this in the requirements on the DOS website.

This^^^ Most of these photos are taken for OFW workers....Most are going to Muslim countries that have specific guidelines for photos. The odd American K1 visa is not their main business....Good luck "teaching" them something))))

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

Make sure they are 2X2 also.  That would be rejected because it is the wrong size and format.
