Engaged but want to enter USA on a Tourist VISA

Hello all, I have a friend who got engaged while she was visiting Ghana on a tourist Visa. She and her fiance had a traditional engagement party however a marriage certificate was signed but her fiance assured her the certificate was only an engagement certificate. When she made it back home to the States I told her what she signed was an official Court wedding certificate because i have the exact same marriage certificate. They are now planning for the wedding that will happen in Ghana this year; however, her fiance/husband says he will be visiting her in the US within a month or so on a Tourist Visa.

Is this even possible considering it's a possibility immigration will look at their engagement as an official wedding?

 

I want to give my friend some accurate information therefore i'm very interested in your feedback.

If her husband already has a tourist visa, yes he can come for a visit, if not of course he would need to apply for a B2 visa being truthful and accurate on the application and if the visa is granted, he can come visit

Spouse or fiance doesn't matter for a B2 visa; same POE eligibility applies.

I hate to break it to your friend, but if she signed a document that is indeed a marriage certificate in any country, she is legally married in that country.  That would only change how she goes about sponsoring him - she would need to sponsor him on a spouse VISA, not a fiancee VISA.  But she really needs to see if she is the victim of fraud.  Ghana is a hotbed of fraud and deceit.  It seems odd that she went over on vacation, met and had an engagement party and signed legal documents.  I know of no other instance where someone gets engaged in any country and signs official documents, especially if they were marriage documents being masqueraded as "engagement" documents.  How is it that he and his family had "legal documents at all for her to sign?"  She might want to spend a little money on an investigation into her fiancee's past before she agrees to anything else.

Her husband says he is coming on a tourist VISA?  I call BS on this person.... getting a tourist VISA from Ghana is a very difficult task and his story is highly suspect - ask her if she is supporting him financially at all?

An engagement certificate?  What does that mean?  I have never heard of any government requiring an engagement certificate to be engaged.  Something smells fishy.

LOL. I was thinking the same thing. Ghana/Nigeria/India/Pakistan...hotbeds of document and immigration fraud. I had posted a UK Border Force video a while back. It was the UK High Commission in Lagos...good God...they were selling Marriage Certificates outside the Consulate LOL

I am from Kenya....be careful. That's all I can say. Did you not see what you sighed? Was it in English or Akan? If he does not already have a B2 visa, doubtful he will get one. If he has one, and he says he is coming to 'visit' you...CPB will probably put him in Secondary. 

 

He might be looking to file for AOS while he is here which is fraud anyway on a B2 as he is already married to you

If the certificate was green and white and long that is Ghana marriage certificate.  If they are married she will file the CR1 on the B2 if he has one CBP wont allow entry and if he apply for one without ties to his country most likely  a denial..seems he tricked ur friend

Her trip to Ghana was to visit him because they were "online dating" while she was there he proposed. I have know doubt that he is frauding her financially because he  does supports her and her kids financially (send her money).

I told her i don't think he can enter the US on a tourist Visa due to the high fraud rate in Ghana also he never mention anything about filling out paperwork. He said all he did was go to the embassy and scheduled his interview!?!?!?!?! (i even side eyed his story) He told her all he needed was a letter of invitation from her when he goes for his interview.

This just seems very soon after a thread by someone else with a Ghanaian fiancé (a chief) from a previous visit to Ghana hoping to be coming soon on a b visa before going back to marry in Ghana. Possibly a total coincidence that two very similar threads pop up within a few days of each other.

From what we know he has never traveled outside of Ghana.
