AP is open ended. There is no way to predict how long it will be.

That said, extended background checks (several months) for Pakistan are common. No way to know if that applies to you or not.

no, the CO did not request any documents nor did she say anything else. she just handed over me the 221 g letter

what are the chances of visa approval?

also, during the interview the consular asked way too many questions. she asked for marriage plans. this was to be decided by my in laws therefore I had no clue. I said that my inlaws will decide.

also, the CO emphasized that why did I opt for fiancé visa and not for spouse visa. I responded by saying that my fiancé and inlaws chose fiancé visa.

It's not a chance-based process. Assuming there were no issues identified (which sounds like the case), and nothing related to national security in the background check, the visa will be approved. AP is not a sign of a denial in the end. It just means additional processing is necessary.

The CO would be familiar with local customs. I'm not, sorry. If that's normal, then I wouldn't expect it to be an issue.

I can't say what the CO thought of that last response. Personally it sounds a little odd as this is your journey with your fiance/fiancee, not theirs. If the CO believes the marriage is just for immigration purposes, then that would be an issue. Note that this is different than an arranged marriage (which I know isn't uncommon with Pakistan)...they will take everything into consideration. Beyond that, I'll defer to others who can speak to how these items are viewed with that consulate.

Hey. I got the same paper. They kept my passport. But after 3.5 months my online status changed to refused n returned my passport. 

I got refused status on ceac on 25 October 2018.

I am getting your point. They also asked whether it's an arranged or loved marriage. It's an arranged marriage.

What does it mean when the case status says: Returned to NVC

If the case was sent back to NVC, then the I-129F is being sent back to USCIS with a recommendation to revoke. However, current USCIS policy is not to review a returned I-129F, so it will sit to expire.

The embassy will send the passport back, usually via local courier.

First step is to confirm that they are actually sending the petition back. It's not common, but wrong status updates do occur.

Second step is try to figure out why they decided to do so. The petition is only sent back if there is an issue with it (determined not to have a bona fide relationship, already being married or suspected of being married, undisclosed criminal record, etc.).

After that, the typical suggestion is to marry, see each other more often, and file an I-130 to start the spousal visa process.
