What does the diversity  lottery have to do with undocumented migrants?

Call a spade a spade, my friend.  They are not undocumented.  They are either legal or illegal.  Your spouse (I assume here, sorry) is legal.  Why would you downplay what you guys have gone or are going thru, to soft-label what an illegal immigrant is?

I thought the debate was about undocumented, why do we need to restrict the diversity lottery?

This is where the discussion breaks down for me. Programs that bring people to this country legally are fair and good for the country. I don't know what point you were trying to make about eliminating the diversity lottery.

I know the thread is focusing on illegal immigration but I have to say I have the same opinion as others here who oppose "diversity" immigration. If I had my way I would eliminate the diversity lottery and replace it with a merit based system. In other words seek out immigrants who would benefit our society the most. I would also keep the family based immigration system in place maybe with some minor changes. I would then streamline all the immigration processes to make them quicker and less expensive.

Many of you who have been through the system already probably see things that could be done differently to speed things up and make them more efficient without compromising national security. For example there should be an online system for submitting all applications and other paperwork that can then sort through and do some initial screening with a computerized system based on answers on the application. That would speed things up for the people who do the final review of the paperwork and maybe reduce some of the cost. Also instead of having multiple agencies involved at certain stages of the process who request a lot of the same things the previous agency requested we should have one centralized agency that does everything and only one package of paperwork required for the whole process. Just a few ideas I had. I'm sure you guys have came up with other ideas also.

Agreed. I'm tired of people tip toeing around the issue. They broke the law. They don't respect our laws or our immigration process. They are here illegally. They are not immigrants. They are not "undocumented". They are illegal aliens. Let's cut the politically correct bs.

Take Trump, Schumer, Pelosi, McConnel and lock them in a room and don't let them come out until a deal is done

I can promise you Schumer is scared of Trump, get them inside a room with no camera and let Trump show them how the real world works...….

Why do it with no cameras?

When all is said and done,  Democrats don't want a wall. Neither do Republicans. Call them RINO's if you want, but it is what it is. If they wanted a wall, we would have had one a long time ago.

A few years ago many of them wanted a wall/barrier, etc.  they don’t now though, but I suspect that is purely political posturing.

I guess I didn’t see that, but of course there are a lot of Washington types that completely love the cameras.  Back when Trump allowed the cameras to stay when he met with Speaker Pelosi and minority leader Schumer.  It was the latter two that kept asking to take this private.  As to @Chris Duffy‘s suggestion, I think it would be inteesting to see those four locked in an escape room with a camera and the only way to get out is to end the shut-down and reform immigration policies.

I wouldn't want to get between Schumer or Pelosi and the camera either. I think you're right, the camera could only make things more interesting.

Ahhh, SMS got ahold of you?  (Short Memory Syndrome).

It was Nancy and Chuck who didn’t want to go on camera last time they met, remember?

I think he is at least trying to compromise before he uses executive power. But the Dems are not coming to the table so I think he will do it by the end of the week.

Took me about 10 m to clear TSA at ATL.  Would have been quicker but they flagged the candy bag for an explosives search
