For the past 20 years I have worked with immigrants. Many are illegal. I care about these kids and have bought them clothes, etc out of my own salary but I also can't deny what is happening either and kids tell their teachers things. Some of these girls are being trafficked. These are NOT their fathers but even though it's obvious to anyone who cares about children, because of the undocumented status there are no papers. We just have to accept she's who he claims she is.  It's sad because I can't help these girls. Whenever any educator gets too close they relocate. We need to know who is coming into our country.

I'm also conflicted because I care about these children but I see the drain they are on resources just at the location where I work. Free breakfast, lunch, medical, food stamps, help with housing, even vouchers to do laundry at the laundro-mat and free laundry detergent, shampoo, deodorant, tooth brushes....We actually have over a 100 kids and their families doing this but imagine just 20 kids/families at each school in your city! How much tax payer $ is that?

In the meantime my father is 69 years old and still working full time to pay for insulin and other medications my parents need. He's been working and paying taxes for over 50 years. When does he get a break? When does he and others get what they were promised and are entitled to? It's okay to want to help people but not at the expense of those who have worked hard and paid into the system for this long. My heart goes out to illegal people but it's our government's priority to be logical and take care of US citizens first.

There is certainly racism in America but it seems to be the default button for this border situation and people constantly look for something to be offended about. Does anyone know many Hatian refugees this country took in after the earthquake? 670,000! We also take in refugees from Sudan and African nations. They were just as brown. Just as poor. They came here legally. In fact many of them resent those who broke the rules to get here.

I hope everyone here in CEHST who claims that illegals are not a burden to taxpayers. And thinks that illegals pay their fair share of taxes read this post and realize just how wrong they, and the left wing sources they use to justify their positions, are.

Kudos to you for trying to help these poor kids, and thanks for taking the time to post an honest opinion here in CEHST.

Call me crazy, but I think any time the government is shut down the first to lose their paychecks should be congress. Maybe then they'll actually try to prevent it

I am not in favor of open borders, and fencing enhancements to support the existing fencing makes practical, common and cost-effective sense. I also don't want folk going around the process to get here.

But I will not buy into the existential threat argument that Trumplicans are making. More "illegals" are overstays and human smuggling victims than those who walk across the borders. A wall does stop tunnels, planes or boats.

Also the slights (not from you) against people because of their Spanish surname is offensive. My grandmother is from Mexico and I find it reprehensible to target people based on their name or origin.

Make e verify Federal law  ( talking to Donald Trump's team  in new Jersey) but crack down on the other channels.

If E-Verify had been mandatory years ago, we might not even be having this discussion. Yet here  we are in 2019 and it’s still not mandatory. If the American employers were hit with substantial fines for knowingly hiring illegals things would have changed quickly. No jobs, less illegals. I don’t blame people for seeking a better life, but there are rules and laws to follow. I also thing the American business owners know this better than the illegals. But they like cheap labor, and to boot, the economy is good and many Americans don’t want those tough, low paying jobs.

I don’t go for the slights against people’s race, ethnicity or religion.

As far as the numbers of illegals due to human trafficking, overstays, etc, I haven’t read much so I can’t add anything to the discussion yet.
