AOS Interview - Married Live with Parents

So my wife and I have our AOS interview coming up.  We are trying to gather some of the evidence needed for our interview.  However, we have a slight problem gathering some  of it as we do not have it.  My wife and I are living with my parents right now as we are still trying to buy a house.  We do not have any utility bills, internet bills, tv bills, water bills, rent, etc., since we are living with them.  We also do not have any cell phone bills either since we are on my parents account.  Any idea what I am suppose to do since we do not have any of those things?  Do you think just informing the person interview us of our situation will be good enough?  Thanks.

Get your roommates to write you an Affidavit verifying your living arrangement and that the vouch for your bonafide marriage.

I have no room mates. It is just me, my wife, and my parents (mom and dad).  Would it be okay if they wrote an affidavit?  If so is there an example somewhere or do I just need to try and write something as I'm not 100% sure how to do one.  Thanks.

Roommates= ppl you live with. In your case, those are your parents.

Google "Greencard Affidavit from friends and family". There is much info.

Yes, your parents can write affidavits. You can also ask someone else: a mutual friend, a neighbor, a co-worker, ... basically anyone who has witnessed and  is willing to attest to your relationship. I mean, you gotta have friends that you went out to dinners or to the bar or maybe you both went to company Christmas party, ... whatever. So you want to get like 3-4 affidavits.

 

Also, you must have tax returns file jointly. That's good evidence. Joint checking accounts, savings accounts, credit card accounts, retirement accounts, ...

Evidence that you guys are beneficiaries on each other's insurance policies.

 

Basically, they are looking for evidence that you commingle your lives together, as most people who are married do. So the more of that you can provide, the better.

OK thanks for the information.  We won't be able to have joint tax returns as we only got married in November 2018 and our interview is in February 2019.  I never even get all my stuff to do taxes until usually around the first week of March so I hope that won't be an issue as its impossible.  I have her added on one of checking accounts, but it is with her maiden name not married name.  They refused to change it until she has a green card, despite showing them the marriage license and certificate.   I added her as an authorized user on my credit card, but it still only shows me on the statements.  The reason being is because they told me they don't do joint credit cards only a authorized user to use my card only.  I did add her as a beneficiary to my retirement account, but not sure how I prove that she is listed. I contacted my 401K company for a confirmation document, but they have yet to respond. My wife doesn't have life insurance yet and mine is through where I work so I am not sure how to add her?  I know what they are looking for we are just having a difficult time gathering this evidence and in a timely matter.  We thought we had a year before the interview and now we have a matter of a few weeks at most.  Thanks for your help and information, very much appreciated.

I wouldn't be too terribly worried about it. We have the AOS interview coming up Wednesday and don't really have much in the way of evidence outside of pictures. They understand that K-1s will have limited commingling. Honestly if you married a USC and they moved in with you you wouldn't run out and get their name put on every bill in the house. We were unsuccessful in getting an SSN so she basically has zero things in her name. Seems easier to wait until she has ID and SSN in her married name to do all that stuff anyway. Just my thoughts, I can let you know how the interview turns out in a couple of days.

I completely agree with you.  Hopefully, they understand all of this and they should.  We were fortunate enough to get her SSN, but they won't allow us to change it to her last name until we have her green card.  Good luck and I hope to hear back from you after your interview.

As an authorized user she gets her own card. Take copies of both your credit cards, that's proof both of you are on the same account.

Like others have stated have the parents write an affidavit of support stating they are okay with you guys living there while saving for a house, etc. we did that as well as showed proof my father owned the house (deed). Is she on your health insurance or car insurance? Can show photocopied IDs that show you reside at same address.

You can print a simple rental agreement online and fill it out with your parents and have all of you sign it, so you have some kind of "lease" too.

 

Either way, you have nothing to worry about. The IO will realize you haven't been married long at all, and that therefore you won't  have much, if any, proof.

Ok, I'll see if my dad can find his deed to the house and get some affidavit wrote up they can sign.  She is on my health insurance.  I wonder if I could just bring a medical bill that was from her doctors appointment and a copy of my insurance card so they can see she is on it?  She doesn't drive and has never drove so I don't see the point on adding her on my car insurance.  She has yet to get her state ID. They said they would mail it to us, but we are still waiting

it only took you 3 months from filing for AOS to the interview? I'm curious because my timeline is about 10 days later than you and I would never expect  the interview to be so soon  😳

Yeah not even quite 3 months from our NOA1 date.  Our NOA1 date was Dec. 3, 2018 and our Interview is on Feb. 19, 2019.  I thought it was going to take like a year from what I was seeing online, but we for some reason moved very quick.  I see some people say it just depends on your local office. So I guess ours is quick.
