The difference in the example presented above, is that the person would be working for a US company.  That wouldn't be breaking continuous residence because they were employed abroad by a US-based employer.

I don't think that's the case of the OP here.

Let's extend the argument. Suppose it's a Canadian oil company. You're an independent consultant for that company. You leave the US for 3 months to work on the rig, return for 3, leave for another 3, etc. Each time you leave, your family remains in the US, you're paying rent, utilities, car insurance, etc, in the US. What then?

Ah, so you accept that being out of the US twice as long as being in the US does not on its own break continuous residence. Progress.

Your attempt to sidestep the argument is transparent and doesn’t work. First, we are talking about someone working for a foreign company on foreign soil, so the analogy is working for a Canadian company on a Canadian rig. Second, the debate was not about the mechanics of continuous residence but about the “principal dwelling place” referred to in the policy manual.

Only if it’s a “qualified” US employer.. generally.has to be government or government related. You can still break residence working for another US employer offshore.

During that time I didn't stay in USA more than 3 weeks at a time and most of my visit to Canada was for for 30/40 days except couple for 150 days.

OP, can you clarify if you have actually counted the days to meet the minimum physical presence requirement? It’s hard to tell from what you’ve stated here.

The rest of the debate could just be a red herring without this.

This is getting pathetic now. OP was not in and out the country for equal amounts of time, we have no idea who was in the US paying what, whether OP was using Canadian health insurance, any of that...

hypothetical scenarios do nothing but reveal that you are on shaky ground ...I’m not bothering to engage in them, you have some details of the OP’s case, stick to what you know , this kind of stuff is irrelevant

I'd say that's a much better scenario than the OP of this thread who only "visited" the US for no more than 3 weeks at a time.

Considering the OP seemingly maintained employment/housing abroad for a significant amount of time over years since becoming a LPR, I fear they stand much less of a chance than the imaginary consultant presented in your example above.

My main points were that 1) there is no legal bar from naturalization because of frequent travel < 6 months outside the US, and 2) the circumstances matter, and OP's job is to show, through supporting evidence to the N-400 application, that he's more like my imaginary independent consultant who retains strong ties to the US.

I don't think anyone was arguing that in this thread...

On its own, frequent travel doesn't bar one from naturalization (unless, of course, the total amount of days outside the US is higher than the maximum allowed depending on either the 3, or 5 year rule.)

Everyone in this thread already noted that individual circumstances matter...which is the why the OP has been asked questions (that still need to be clarified).

No one said anything different, in terms of your points.  I think the point of contention earlier might have been people saying the same thing but in differing ways.

We know those are your points. You just don’t seem to have much support for them from the facts of this case.

Perhaps the thread should avoid getting derailed---would hate to see it closed through no fault of the OP, especially when they haven't had the chance to come back yet to read the advice given/volunteer clarification.
