All of TSA needs to go away.  "Security Theatre."

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I knew a person who was working at the airport as a screener. She was fired from a local grocery store.  Then all of sudden we had 911 and next thing you know they are Federal Employess and now working for the TSA.

She has ridden the gig out since then and makes a fairly nice salary for her education level and has great benefits.

Me when I enter the airports and look at the TSA personal, I think to myself, surely this can't be the best the TSA can find.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

The TSA hires the people that McDonald's rejects. Both times flying to the Philippines I found them to be extremely rude and unprofessional. One time there was a Chinese man ahead of me in the screening line who had a hard time with English. The TSA agent was demeaning towards him and insulting him in front of everyone for not being able to speak English. Then it was my turn. I was carrying two laptops (taking one to my wife) and forgot to remove one of them from the bag at the xray machine. I get through the screening and a TSA supervisor was standing there holding my laptop very angrily asking who's it was. I told him it was mine and he flipped out on me. Like I said very rude and unprofessional.

Contrast that with the communist Chinese security at the Hong Kong airport who were professional and polite towards everyone. Same goes for the security at the airport in the Philippines. In fact everywhere I went in the Philippines the security people were very polite. One time in a mall one of them even helped my wife and I carry our bags (funny sight seeing a security guard carrying an M16 helping us with our bags). It's pretty sad that security personnel in a communist nation and a third world nation are more professional than our TSA. I say when the government reopens leave the TSA permanently shut down.

The President says the shutdown will go on for weeks, months or years.  How long will it take before we see attrition?

Certain industries are not going to be part of shutdown

Transportaiton would be one of those

I have a friend who is a cop.  Every year, they dress in civilian attire and test the TSA by trying to smuggle weapons or contraband thru security.  Hr says they are about 97% successful.  Told me of one female cop with long hair who puts a rusty old

38 revolver on her head, wraps her hair in a bun around it.  When the main alarm goes off, they hand wand her.  When it alarms near her head, she says, "Oh, that's just my Bobby pins," and they wave her thru.  She has been using that same trick for several years now.

Another time, modeling clay was packed inside of a hair dryer to mimic C4.  The agents caught it, opened the the hair dryer, and believed the cop when she said it was how she transported her modeling clay "to protect it".  Reassembled the dryer and sent her on to the plane.

No doubt people get caught with guns and say they didn't know it was illegal or wrong since they are used to doing it

I think they just confiscate your gun if you forget, and give it back when you return in my area.

What do you expect from McDonald's rejects?

TSA employees are not getting paid. They cannot pay the rent or put gas in their car, they will move on if this drags out.

From a libertarian perspective, I would say the TSA is like a metaphorical wall in the physical form that someone wants to build. It's all security theater, and not very effective.

The TSA are always nonsensical, aggressive, rude, and bored out of their minds. My husband makes them do a patdown, and that usually really gets them mad. They actually got freaked out about pocket lint and old gum wrappers!

That being said though, regardless of whether they are McD's rejects or not, and regardless of if they may or may not get back pay eventually. They are people, with a job, and with mouths to feed, a home to live in, and bills to pay. If they aren't getting paid then they can't pay bills, and a promise of back pay eventually whenever doesn't really help when the you need cash now.
