The embassy in Ghana doesn't let the petitioner inside the embassy only the beneficiary. That embassy is VERY strict

High-fraud or no,t I thought that goes for all US consulates! No petitioner can go in with his/her spouse (beneficiary).

Many consulates let the spouse/fiancé(e) come in and attend the interview.

Wow! That's fantastic, but also discriminatory in nature would you think?

I think it has to do with the physical location/space available in the chancery, as well as the security concerns.

Not sure what is so funny. Space and security concerns seems like reasonable factors that could influence their decision. Never said they were the only factors.

Remember with a K1 the requirement is to marry within 90 days of entry into the US. You can always marry at the courthouse to fulfill the legal requirement and then plan an elborate reception at a later date. Maybe your vendors would be willing to waive the rescheduling fees if you chose an off-season date with more avaibaility. Sometimes vendors are more flexible with dates that are not during prime season. It may not be axactly what you envisioned but it might help with the financial side. Don't panic just yet, but it wouldn't hurt to call the vendors and explore options. Hope things work out.

Definitely! At this point my main concern is that my fiance gets here and we can marry. I will definitely let my vendors know what's going on and see what options we have.

Thank you!

Yes, available space and (to a lesser extent) security reasons dictate why petitioners might or might not be admitted into a consulate.  Nothing prevents a petitioner from staying within range on or near the consular grounds in case questions are necessary, in which case the petitioner will be invited in.  The petitioner's availability can save time by clearing up questions on the spot, thus averting a return visit by the beneficiary.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I went in with my now wife in the Philippines.  I believe MOST allow the petitioner in since he is the citizen.  Manila has a very large and modern Embassy.

HUH?  Many consulates are very small and if they allowed both in they would not get everyone in the building.

I know some of this feed say that everyone in Ghana knows a knocking ceremony isn’t considered a traditional marriage, but I can tell you first hand that the US Embassy sees it very differently. We didn’t do a knocking ceremony or a traditional married. We did however have an engagement part in which my husband and I were wearing matching outfits. No gifts or rings exchanged...no vows read...nothing ceremonial. We did this because we wanted his family to celebrate our soon-to-be union in America since they wouldn’t be able to be with us for what we thought would be our wedding. My now husband took photos of this party to the interview, even though I strongly advised him not to. Sadly the CO made up his mind that we were married and therefore didn’t qualify for the K1. We most definitely weren’t married but it didn’t matter. I am not alone in this. Many others have similar stories on this site.

I tell you this so you can be aware it very much can become an issue when dealing with the Ghana embassy. I hope it doesn’t for you, but you need to be prepared for what could be coming. If unfortunately it does, please reach out to me. I traveled to Ghana after our K1 was denied, got married and applied for the CR1. My husband has now been here almost 2 years.
