Thanks for the update. Yeah, looks like the initial post by the consulate was an error.

Misinterpreted.   The original posting was referring to the holiday shutdown, in addition they announced the closure of the public affairs section ONLY!  In typical fashion somebody blew it up

Misinterpreted, yes. But it was due to the shutdown..just the visa services and such were not affected. Only one part of the consulate was closed.

Due to the current U.S. government shutdown, the American Centers located in the Embassy, Abuja and Consulate General, Lagos are unfortunately closed. They will re-open once the U.S. government shutdown is resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience to our valued patrons

No they have not.   Have you investigated this?  Look at the embassy website.   The report was erroneous.

Do you know what this is?  It is a reference library in the public affairs section.   It is NOT the consulate

Best to read the relevant sections of the website

Trump Shutdown? I thought it was the Schumer Shutdown.

It is a Schumer shutdown.  Trump was elected to build the wall....and the Democrats know that.  They are just continuing their game of rejecting all things Trump.....and at the cost of border security.....imo.

The precise wording from DOS is that visa services “will remain operational as long as there are sufficient fees to support operations.”. The exact meaning of that is unclear. While fees cover many costs of a visa, the entire set of operations are also funded through appropriations from the federal government. This differs from USCIS, in which petition and applications are fully funded through fees (with dedicated buckets allocated to these services).

Exactly,  not all visa units are self sustaining.   They have the fee fund to draw upon until it runs dry.  The visa factory we call Manila will likely stay open longer than many

Incorrect:

Does not mention embassies, only uscis office doing green cards which I suspect is in the USA

They closed the USEM down visa and conular office down in 2013 when Obama shut the government down.  If it continues the Government shutdown then they will close up the visa section again

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

Yep.  If I remember correctly, the petitions are fee based but eventually all the ancillary stuff impacts the work.  It is only a matter of time before budgets start impacting some of the support services that are required to keep the petitions moving.  That includes support staff at the embassies.  In the Philippines, as with other embassies and consulates, there are a lot of local workers and once the budget runs out and they can't get paid it pretty much shuts down most non-essential services.

PHILIPPINES ONLY!!!  CFO (Commission on Filipinos Overseas) INFO - Can't leave home without it!

PDOS (Pre-Departure Registration and Orientation Seminar) is for ages 20-59.  Peer Counseling is for 13-19 years of age.

It is required to have the visa in their passport for PDOS and Peer Counseling.

GCP (Guidance and Counseling Program) is for K-1 Fiancee and IR/CR-1 spouse ONLY.
