I freaking hope so, because, after all the sugar fed to me by them and making it seem like everything is jolly, they come out of the blue and start scrutinizing about some more information that doesn't even pertain to my wife! Jesus!

Family ties are important in many countries, I should know. Blood is thicker than water, my wife is Colombian.

But is it so important that they might deny a visa based off of what one family member might have done and NOTHING to do with my wife???

How old is your wife?  That will tell us how old she was in 2000.  This may all be irrelevant, but there's nothing you can do about it.  It is not you who decides whether this has anything to do with your wife's eligibility for a visa.

My wife is 21 years old and I am 23. She was only a child during that time, that's what makes it even odder. 

 

"It is not you who decides whether this has anything to do with your wife's eligibility for a visa." that's what's worrying me. Does there not exist any sort of clause or law in the immigration laws about not being liable for anything not related to you? 

 

I understand this situation is probably unique on these forums but I just really needed some inputs.

I understand this situation is probably unique on these forums but I just really needed some inputs. 

This is a judgment call assessing risk.  You keep asking questions without providing enough information to give more than speculation as answers.  If her father or brother, uncle etc. were legitimately on a watch list, yes, it can reflect on her risk assessment.  Without more facts, we are only speculating.

They don't know if she has anything to do with anything that a relative may or may not have done until they investigate.

It's not like she's been accused of anything. Let them do their thing and verify that there isn't an issue.

Correct.  And, the OP has still not said what the relative did.  Maybe he doesn't know.  They'll do their thing.  It's difficult to wait while in the dark but there are really no options.

More speculation here since not much more information is forthcoming...however, just curious since they are questioning your wife about her uncle, coupled with the (supposed) possibility of him being a person of interest...was this an arranged marriage in any way? 

 

And, if so, did the uncle have a hand in the arrangements at all, or involved in the introductions, and this came up during the interview?  Depending on what the uncle has done in the past, might add to more scrutiny of your wife's case if he had any sort of hand in your marriage.

I don't think it'll be a big deal. The wife is 21 now, so she was what, 4 years old in 2000. There is nothing a 4 year-old could have done that could have an impact on her visa eligibility.

So clearly if the relative's history has an impact it will not be connected with anything SHE did up to age 4.  It would be how they evaluate the likelihood she'll do something in the future.
