seriously how did you guys overcome this Cold Weather?

I try to spend as much of my winter times in warm places like Philippines, Thailand and Dominican Republic.

I am in North Texas while it doesn't get super cold here, anything under 50 is cold for me  and if you add a North wind, then it unbearable for me.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

As others have said---dress in layers, stay indoors when you can.  I love the cold here but NY is only getting spurts of colder weather it seems---in a couple of weeks I'm going on a trip back to Canada where it will be even colder---I love the cold weather though, it's the slush I can't stand when that happens.

I don't know. It was 35°F here yesterday, which is unseasonably warm.  It is more like October temps. I couldn't even stand to wear a coat and just went in my t-shirt. I can't wait for it to drop below 10-15 every day. When it sits around 30, it snows and then there is freezing rain and ice. When it is too cold to snow, it is a good day.

Cold is relative.

As to pregnancy and allergy meds. There are lists online that state safe medications, but Zyrtec is my go to safe med for both pregnancy and breastfeeding. I'll also occasionally use Flonase and Benadryl. I find that if I'm going to be expose to a known allergen that I just wear a mask.  Other things are keeping a clean house, frequently wiping all surfaces (includes baseboards) with a wet cloth, getting rid of carpets, and having several HEPA air filters running.

26F here and it's unseasonably warm for us, too. There's a little ice from snow that happened in late November, but there's more grass & dead leaves visible than ice or snow patches.

Coming from a climate that gets brutally hot in summer (up to 120F in summer and rarely below 32F even in the middle of the night in winter), my first few winters visiting here were painful. Last year hubby bought me some proper layers and started taking me out for long walks to get used to it and now I'm comfortable enough until it gets below 20F.

Light, warm layers of natural fabric is your friend. And getting out and getting used to it really does help.

My husband is Scandinavian and grew up in snow 80% of the year all his life, but somehow he's finding our winter here in SC super cold  I think it doesn't come down to actual temperature or degrees, but the weather and climate in general. We definitely don't get as cold as Sweden but somehow, it's still different and worse in its own way.

He's been fighting off colds and allergies for a few months now, too, but I think your body just has to adjust and acclimate to your new environment, which will happen eventually. Like I tell my husband - layers is the best way to go, particularly around here. Our temperature fluctuates so much, you may need a heavy coat in the morning but can get away with a regular shirt by afternoon. Always wear socks! Keep Vicks on hand - put some on your feet underneath your socks before going to bed at night. Trust me on that one.

And hot tea, or whatever warm beverage you prefer. Paul drinks tea with honey and/or ginger almost every night.

And just enjoy it, pain points aside! It's the warm and cozy time of the year and you're with your partner, who you've probably dreamed of being with during the holidays for a long time. I know for us, we may not be exactly where we want to be yet and don't have a lot under our tree this year, with all the immigration expenses we've had, but we're together in person for the first time for Christmas. It's a blessing and a special gift to have!! :)

HÃ¥ll ut, y'all.

I hate the cold, that’s part of the reason I lived 5 years in Cambodia. Now back in New Jersey I’m lucky to be working from home, if I wasn’t I planned to buy a battery powered jacket 🤣

I have USB powered gloves for inside if I’m cold!

(Not gonna lie, I’ve looked at Jobs in Florida recently)

I live in the frozen tundra of North Dakota. Last year we were down to -60 without wind chill and at that point I don't leave the house unless I have too lol. I threw boiling water up in the air and it evaporated instantly. Was pretty cool!

Staying warm isn't about being fashionable. Don't dress to impress, dress to not get hypothermia and die!

This is my recipe for keeping warm in extra cold weather:

*Cover up your face and neck with scarves/neck warmers and hats. Keeping the ears covered helps a lot

*Keep your legs are extra insulated. I have worn long johns (thermal undies) under my work pants several times.

*Mittens to keep your fingers together. Gloves are lame. Throw in hand warmers if you have to.

*Get a good pair of insulated / waterproof boots or shoes - stay away from those silly ugg boots, they don't do anything. I have toes that turned pure white because I had crappy boots walking around the snow for about 2 hours one year. Pretty sure it was frost-nip. Now they are super sensitive to cold.

*If all else fails, cut open a Tauntaun with your lightsaber and use it's innards to keep warm until someone comes to rescue you

I suppose you could crank up the heat in your house if you don't mind paying for it. Again, just layer up with your blankets and fuzzy socks while at home.

I hope you acclimate better to the temperatures soon. I'm sure it's quite an adjustment!

I'm moving to Michigan next April, and I'm scared. I'm Venezuelan, I used to have the caribbean sea 45 min away by car form my hometown Caracas, where the weather is pretty much an eternal spring. Sunny and not too hot, also not too moist -perfection-.

And I happened to fall in love with a guy that lives in a city where there's winter like 13 of 12 months a year.

From a guy coming from the north of England where we say it is always raining and cold, I was so, so  half-wrong. It is always raining but the cold, geez. I'm moving to Michigan and just spent Christmas/New Years there and as many have said before me...layers. All. The. Layers. When you think you have all the layers on that you think you'll need for the day, get another layer on top with a nice scarf and gloves and a hat!

We took the dog for a walk and I had a hoodie and coat on and geez I could've sworn I was going to lose my ears by the time we got home. Always the layers and over time you'll acclimatise to it eventually!

All this is kind of making me giggle a little, as Minnesota is colder than Michigan! I actually find the cold of Northern England worse than when it is -25° F here. There is something about the drizzle and the cold that gets inside your soul and kills it a little. At least with the snow, I can go outside and ski and walk around. This morning it was 15° and I was out cross-country skiing to the store in just a sweater and mittens.  I mean, not just that, but in addition to regular clothes. There was no bottom nudity involved. 😂

Getting used to the cold will take some time, but you'll get there.

Well I guess there are places even more colder than Minnesota too, I just know that my caribbean body is suffering already because of "Mexican winter" (like -2C) so I can't imagine how a real winter will feel like 😂

I'm not sure how to interpret your comment, it's not a familiar expression and Google translates it to this:

Translated properly.   The bitter cold keeps the undesirables away.
