My wife grew up in Siberia and absolutely hates the cold, and yet she chose to come to Michigan :) .  She traveled back to her former hometown last year in January and endured 10 days of -40 C/F.

Anastasia's from a few hundred miles east (and slightly north) of Moscow. I kind of wonder what she'll think if she has to go back home in winter sometime after a few years in SoCal .

Mrs. T-B. sure couldn't handle the heat (more precisely, the heat with lack of air conditioning) on her last two trips back to Ecu.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Nu uh! Haha

Its been 80°F (roughly 26°C) in So Cal these last few days. I've been sitting out in the sun enjoying it so much. Although, my husband and his family think I'm crazy for doing so (they think it's sweater weather?)

This is beach weather in England! It's awesome!

You will have to dress properly, and you will need the right brands and material for that. I remember before I had a car I never took off my polyster long johns. I always went out with a hat, double socks, a scarf, and some good waterproof shoes. go outside everyday in the cold winter is like going to a special mission that you need to get ready for

I can cope with the cold, only once seen -40, the wind gets to me.

I don't know. It was 35°F here yesterday, which is unseasonably warm.  It is more like October temps. I couldn't even stand to wear a coat and just went in my t-shirt. I can't wait for it to drop below 10-15 every day. When it sits around 30, it snows and then there is freezing rain and ice. When it is too cold to snow, it is a good day.

Cold is relative.

As to pregnancy and allergy meds. There are lists online that state safe medications, but Zyrtec is my go to safe med for both pregnancy and breastfeeding. I'll also occasionally use Flonase and Benadryl. I find that if I'm going to be expose to a known allergen that I just wear a mask.  Other things are keeping a clean house, frequently wiping all surfaces (includes baseboards) with a wet cloth, getting rid of carpets, and having several HEPA air filters running.

@Boileri agree I used to live in Philadelphia and the cold I ca take but when the wind kicks in, I’m dead. But I now live in Sacramento, so it still gets cold but not as bad as Philly, and no snow.

Wear clothes made out of wool, alpaca, cashmere maybe over a thin cotton inner layer. We raided second-hand stops and stocked up!

Also get gloves, warm wool socks, a good winter coat and a hat and scarf - the thermolite (I think!) usually works pretty well. When my husband got here from the caribbean he got a job doing maintenance outside in January and this (along with a portable heater) is how he survived

I like the cold. We live in the mountains and the next mountain to ours has snow all year round. I love seeing snow in July. It’s how you dress for it.l and you do get used to it.  I went back to England last month to visit for the first time since I moved and took my Washington winter clothes and was too warm. I couldn’t wait to get back to the ice and snow.
