Waiting forever on Green Card interview letter ??

Ok so 9 weeks ago my Russian wife got a notification after receiving her Work Permit and Advance Parole card that said USCIS would send us a letter for her upcoming green card interview. We never got any notification for when/where the interview would take place and USCIS kinda rudely told us to be patient and wait indefinetly when I called. Whats the typical wait time, just to receive a letter stating an interview time for green card? I'm hearing it could be months ? Is there any way to expedite it or find out why they want an interview at all ? My friends wife from Indonesia had her green card mailed to her with no interview necessary at all. It's literally screwing my wife's life up as she desperately wants to attend university but cant do so without the green card and permanent residency. Any info on how long we can expect JUST to receive the letter showing date/time for green card, and how long we should expect to wait for it.

every service center is different. this can also make whether or not an interview is more likely or not.

 

be patient. you can not compare your journey to anyone elses. if being a permanent resident was critically important, a CR1 would have been the better visa option, but whats done is done and now you must wait.

Some get interview waived and others don't. She shouldn't put too much into that.

 

Some local offices are fast and others often in big cities have a long list. 

 

So some are 3 months wait for the interview and some are 1 year + so you have to see what your local office wait time is and no there is not really anything you can do to expedite that.

Hmm I'm even more confused now. We are in Alabama and that link says our Field processing office is in Alabama. But, we went to New Orleans for biometrics appointment. So, will green card interview be in Montgomery where it says our field office is, or in New Orleans where we did biometrics ?

most of the time patient is always needed for this long journey..just be content/thankful that she didnt get deported..comparing to other cases is just gonna make you worry...i know the feeling because im in this journey too and most members here in vj said that every cases are different.. my point is just be patient..it doesnt matter that the interview will come later..important is shes staying legally in the US.

Some people wait weeks for an interview. Some wait over a year. You just have to wait.

What's the basis to expedite?

Not everybody gets an interview, but marriage-based cases generally get an interview nowadays. The interview is to determine if the marriage is bona fide and all documents are in order.

Why can't she attend university?

We cant afford the tuition for grad school without financial aid.

I hope you have really investigated how to establish her as a resident for tuition purposes in Alabama. Just living there for a year, or just getting a green card may not qualify her for in-state tuition rates.

It sounds pretty easy to get in-state tuition in 'Bama.

Employment

If a person works in Alabama for at least 90 days prior to applying for school, he is considered an Alabama resident for tuition purposes. He must be employed in a permanent capacity; temporary employment does not count. Spouses of employees are considered residents even if they do not work in Alabama or have not lived there for more than 12 months.

Ok wait, these 2 statements completely cancel each other out. You said being a resident doesnt automatically qualify as in-state tuition but then the employment states that she would count for in-state if she worked for at least 90 days. Which is it and where did you find this information ?

The referenced information says a person will qualify for in-state tuition if he/she has been employed in Alabama for 90 days.  The spouse of a person who has been employed for 90 days also qualifies for in-state tuition...per this web site:  https://www.theclassroom.com/residency-requirements-for-in-state-tuition-in-alabama-13606968.html.

 

The person does not have to live in Alabama for 12 months.....

These don't cancel each other out.

One says that if person A works for at least 90 days on a permanent basis is a resident.
 

the other says that if the person A is a spouse of an employed person B on a permanent basis then person A is a resident even if person A does not work.

or if you're talking about the two people shooting out ideas. One basically told you to find it out and the other gave you what info they had lol.


This is something that you will want to talk to the school about for real confirmation.

Biometrics are done at USCIS service centers while interviews are done at USCIS field offices, so you might indeed have the first done in Louisiana while the second is done in Alabama. They'll let you know.

Biometrics are done at an Application Support Center (ASC). This may or may not be a service center or field office as well.

Why can't she go to college? My husband has been going to college since 2 months after he moved here, before he had his EAD card. He doesn't even have a green card yet and he is about to finish his second semester.
