There are a handful of cases where somebody still got a 2 year card and needed to file an I-90 to have it corrected to the 10 year card.

I-90 is to renew or replace an existing green card.

I-751 is to remove conditions on a conditional permanent resident.

These are different processes. Joint filing has no impact on which process you use.

 

If you were supposed to get a 10 year green card and you get a 2 year green card, it would be an I-90 to fix the issue.

If you enter on the CR-1 visa before your 2 year anniversary then you will be a conditional permanent resident and get a 2 year green card.

 

If you lose the card, it gets damaged, stolen, has an error, etc., then you file an I-90 to get it fixed/replaced.

Within 90 days of the 2 year anniversary of entering the US (not the 2 year marriage anniversary!), you must file an I-751. Not a day sooner, and avoid filing late.

Upon I-751 approval, you will get a 10 year green card.

 

Assuming you don't become a citizen by the end of those 10 years, you would file an I-90 to renew the card before it expires. Or if it has an error, gets lost/damaged/stolen, etc., then you would file an I-90 still.
