Yea I just posted about this in another trend. We filed in May  2017. Our estimated wait time was 15-27 months. I figure MINIMUM people make it to 2 years because of this. Essentially, by jumping to the 10year GC you skip paying the government 500$+ for that filing fee. Once we got our 2nd EAD/AP approval, I was hoping we could save that money(We're buying a home so any savings help) but realized that government giving up money was a small chance.

It's not only the fee but also the hassle of going through the process one more time.

I do hope my case will be dragged past 2 years. lol

I only need the EAD to work and AP to travel when necessary.

We're going through AOS and we've been married for almost two years. How often do folks get the 10 year GC when this close? Is there something folks do to point this out?

I would not recommend attempting to "forget" anything on purpose or even trying to reschedule the interview. Instead, I would go to the interview with a BOAT-LOAD of evidence from all angles and categories. Doing so, has played in favor of many who politely mention to the Immigration Services Officer how soon their 2 year anniversary is coming up. I've read of officers saying "sure, I can lose your file on my desk for a month" or whatever time is needed to reach your anniversary. I would use the Table of Contents put together by CookieCat for their I-751 Application to remove conditions on Permanent Residence.

If you want to skip that step, then show the officer that your case merits that. That's my best 2-cent humble, non-legal advice.
