I am not going to defend anybody here, but comments like can't read, or it says DO NOT OPEN doesn't help. Any of you thought that his/her father doesn't speak English?

Unfortunately in a lot of societies is very common that parents, family members, neighbors are more than nosy and not even think that it's not their right to know everything/ open up stuff especially if it's sealed and it's not theirs

Anyway, hope they can fix it for him/her.

That was my first thought too...that he didn't understand what was stamped on the outside of the envelope.

However, the part about him adding extra papers/documents to the envelope...that is kinda odd.

At least in my husbands case he was told by the IO at the interview about the package and not to open it. He warned his family members living in the house about it (even though they’d never open his mail) that it was coming and not to open it (just to be safe). There are a lot of VJ members on here from countries who’s language is not English that don’t open that packet.

i think what’s the most worrisome in this case is that not only did his father open it but he took the paper work and mixed it around. Sounds more like sabatoge.

maybe it’s just me but if I knew I was getting important mail that I was told cannot be opened I’d let anyone who would come in contact with my mail in my house not to touch anything.

i hope for the best for the OP but there’s nothing we can say to help. Hopefully this thread will help others so this situation doesn’t happen for anyone else again. And hopefully OP can work things out with his father and bring all of the right documents back to the consulate.

I don't know how the OP's consulate does it, but I've seen pictures of some accidentally torn sealed envelopes, and they had DO NOT OPEN in English and what I assume was the same in the consulate's local language. At least, the Ukrainian one I saw a picture of had some writing in Cyrillic letters on it in the same block as the 'DO NOT OPEN' in English.

I would say your safest option is to start completely over from the beginning, rather than try to enter the US. If you try to enter the US and get denied entry, you may never get to enter after that, even on a simple tourist visa. The sealed envelope could cause you to be marked as immigration fraud for tampering with the documents.

However, if the US Embassy gives you a new sealed envelope with documents inside already, you should be fine. I find it odd that they would let you replace the documents yourself

They have to take the documents back to the Consulate/Embassy to be resealed, that is all.

They may also need to reverify all documents, which can take time.

That's what I'm thinking too. A page ago I mentioned that she should have them check her paperwork and not simply reseal it because at this rate who knows what is in there.

However, the part about him adding extra papers/documents to the envelope...that is kinda odd.

The part about extra paperwork- hes basically saying what if he puts something that doesnt belong in it, not that he wants to.

Anyway, it doesnt seem like many people are actually reading the posts by @Renaud1992 but are just adding comments based on previous comments. When Kris&me suggested the Embassy was going to give him a new envelope he responded-

Quote

No she said, we are gonna give you an enveloppe. You are gonna put your documents in it. We will add a little note on your profile that says it got opened. And then she said "if they don't let you get in the country at the boder, it is your problem". So... I mean there gotta be a list no ? People who opened it never posted a message saying what it contains ???

Only one person gave him the proper advice about NOT getting an empty envelope and filling it himself like the lady on the phone told him is how they are going to handle it and another user posted about how the Embassy is probably ticked off about this hence their response.

If Renaud1992 is still checking this thread (and I hope he does before going tomorrow) he needs to be sure he gets a new sealed envelope from the Embassy and does not attempt to refill it himself and present it to CBP with a note explaining. Proper procedure is for the Embassy to give him a new sealed envelope no matter how aggravating it is for them. (for those that like to pick apart words the phrase new sealed envelope also means same envelope RE-sealed or a totally new envelope. The point is not about the envelope itself but the fact that it was sealed by the Embassy).
