We have been seeing this a lot here in NC with transplants from the NE. They are complaining about how the districts are gerrymandered right now without knowing the full freaking history of how they came to be in the first place. The Dems here in NC gerrymandered the districts for over 100 years and gave us the crappy 12th Congressional District that I grew up in. That district was literally stretching down I-85 from Greensboro to Charlotte in primarily minority districts.

I argue with people about this when they say "We need to have the Dems in charge so that the maps can be drawn to favor us".

Michigan passed a proposal that will create a 13 member commission (4 Dems, 4 Repubs and 5 Indies) to draw the districts.  I don't know, I think even that is likely to be partisan.  Heck, I am not registered with either party, so I could qualify as an Independent, and I am certainly more MDR/Libertarian.  Whatever, maybe I will try to get on this commission.

Sure, the Democrats have never gerrymandered any districts.  I love how the Dems have their victimhood status engrained in their base.

Does that make it okay? Typical response from you. If the Dems ever did something, then it's alw okay for the Republicans to do it, to the nth degree.

It was done by Dems to make super majority black districts.  What it accomplished was making sure all the other districts had very little minority input

Say what you want, but the truth of the matter is that the Republicans are only holding on to power because of industrial level gerrymandering.

Does it make it OK that you only point to one party as being the bad guy when it comes to drawing House district lines?  Let's be fair, and yes, either are wrong if they are doing it for partisan reasons.  There is however another possibility, the are requirements from Washington to maintain certain minority districts, the only problem is that minorities often times move around within 10 year periods, so if a commission, or a state legislature is tasked with maintaining one or two districts with a majority minority population along with trying to keep fairly equal populations in all their districts then maps may end up with some very oddly shaped districts.  There is a lot more to creating House maps then trying to look at party affiliations.

I think you need to do some additional research into how House districts are determined.

So the Democrats gained ground in races that have districts and the Repubs gained ground in races that don't have districts

Yet the MDL blames any repub success on Gerrymandering,. Yes I know thats just how out of touch they are

I have said numerous times that I think all districts need to be redrawn by nonpartisan people to increase the competitiveness of a district.

Michigan is a tough one as apparently Washington mandates that it maintain a minimum of two districts that are a majority of blacks in it.  That used to be easy with Detroit, but guess what, Detroit has lost a lot of population and now the districts have to be drawn to capture the mandated demographic.  To hear the MDL, it is all about partisanship.

Which at the time was ok for the Dems because it created districts that pro-Democrat with little competitiveness.

One House district in the Houston area was drawn specifically and solely to be a Hispanic district.

However, the leading candidate for nomination, a Hispanic, was indicted and withdrew.

Gene Green, a regular white guy, was nominated and re-elected multiple times.

He's retiring at year-end.

Despite his party affiliation, he was a good guy to have in Congress.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

No need to continue, this fact negates any basis for his argument

Oh that's right, Republicans rely more on voter disenfranchisement for those races.  I'm sure the Dems probably did it to, that's okay then.
