Background Check

Hi All, I am an August Concurrent AOS filer, Marriage Base. Field office Providence, RI.

My question relates to background check timeline. I completed Bio appointment on 9/6/2018 and the system shows ASC received Bio on 9/7/2018. It has been about two month, and my background check has not been cleared yet.

I called USCIS customer services 3 times:

First time, tier 1 said it now takes at least 3 month

Second time, tier 1 said they have not get my background review yet

Third time, tier 1 said my background is still under review.

My questions are: How long does background check normally take? Should I trust three month timeline? I see a lot of people has it cleared in couple weeks.

Thank you for any inputs/thoughts you can offer.

Usually day(s).

Sometimes weeks.

Sometimes months.

Rarely even longer.

There is no firm timeline for background checks...USCIS requests them and then they wait for the various agencies to complete them and return the results. Sometimes there's a hit that needs to be checked manually, even if somebody has no past history (i.e. shared name with somebody else).

Hi, I filed end of August (married to USc) had my biometrics appointment beginning of October. Still haven’t heard anything back. They had an error on my name, Uscis put the initial of my first name instead of my correct middle initial. Was told to call in to get it corrected. Still haven’t gotten response on that either. Was worried that’s why my status hasn’t updated but just waiting patiently now. Uscis doesn’t seem to have a method to their madness, try keeping busy so you don’t think about it. Good luck 🍀

Thank you very much for sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear about the mistake and hope they fix it soon. Good luck to both of us! 👍🙂

For anyone that knows, what happens once they complete a background check? Is there something that happens after? Do you get a notification saying the background check was complete? I thought the next step after biometrics was the EAD issuing, following by the 'Your case is ready to be scheduled' etc.?

After the background check, if everything else is in order, they can adjudicate.

No notification of background checks being completed is sent out, nor do you get to see the results.
