The thing is that it is possible and certainly something a Lawyer would consider.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

The L classification according to USCIS is defined as "Have a qualifying relationship with a foreign company". The key to your case is whether that 1 year as a contractor is a "qualifying relationship". I think that is a wee bit complicated and not a do-it-yourself type deal, as it probably will need an immigration attorney to write some sort of brief/justification. If you were a straight employee of the company for 1 year, I'd say that a pretty straight forward case for L1B, but it might not be.
