I864 and non taxable income

Hi everyone,

So my parents in law are going to be our joint sponsors.

They are both retired and are getting social security benefits which is about 60% of their income.

Their other income is from renting out a home and some kind of interests and comes out as just under 21.000 for 2017. The SS benefits are around 30.000 so together their income would be well sufficient to sponsor me .

However on their 1040s the SS benefits are listed in line 20a but only $2000 are taxable and show up on the line for total income so the “total income” is below the guidelines.

I know that retirement benefits can be used as income but how do i go about the numbers on the i864? Do i have to write an extra letter explaining that part of their income isn’t taxable or is it enough to just upload the tax returns and supporting documents?

Bank statements, SS statements, or deposit statements would show the rest of this income.
