Is a drivers license required at the N400 interview?

Morning, my appointment is coming up in a few weeks. The lawyer says I need to get a state issued form of ID such as a drivers license. Has this been asked of people at the interview? We have only temporarily lived in the state in which we will have the interview, I've never changed my drivers license as we are moving the day after the interview. I am worried I may have made a mistake in not changing my drivers license. Any insight?

You are not required to have a DL or state ID. I didn't have either at the time of my N400 interview.

That’s why i don’t like lawyers. They be giving wrong informations so the client can think they are working... 🤦🏾‍♂️

Good morning! Always nice to see a fellow South African! Were you able to retain your South African citizenship without much issue? Im heading to the World Market today hopefully Ive heard whispers that they carry biltong.

Your GC will work perfectly well as a form of ID.

GoodMorning, Haha i miss biltong. Will the salty sauce taste the same, let me know if it does lol? About the Citizenship issue, we will cross that bridge when we’re ready for the N-400 probably in 2022. 😂

I was asked for my driver's license. I've read were they ask this to show that you reside in the USCIS district. Most states allow you to get a state ID so I would say you should. All the best and let us know how it goes

It says second form of ID such as passport or drivers license.

I have to disagree with some of the earlier posters on this thread having gone through the Citizenship/N400 interview myself. This was in the Newark Office back in 2014.

 

I reckon you would need a DL or a State ID to prove that you reside in their (that particular field office's) jurisdiction.

 

Again, I am speaking from my experience as one data point.

I would explain this one more time, the form of identification they are asking you is just to enter the building a green card or passport is fine, you already have the letter so do as the letter says, now if you need to provide residency in your jurisdiction a drivers license could be helpful but is not the only thing that you can show to prove this, you can show leases, mortgages, etc.

Residence can be proven in other ways such as a current bill, mail from banks or the government. You know, the stuff you use to prove residence IN ORDER TO get a DL/state ID...

No you don't need driver's license for N-400 interview. :)
