Rescheduling AOS Interview

Is it wise to reschedule my AOS interview?   I got my interview notice for November which is right in the middle of a foreign trip (to my home country) we have planned since last year. I got my interview notice 1.2 years after filing AOS. Anybody tried to reschedule their AOS interview?

At the second part of the interview notice you can only reschedule the interview if you are sick or there's an emergency. I would not risk rescheduling it only because I have a foreign trip. You have been waiting for 1.2 years!

Yes you can request a rescheduling. It may take month(s) to get a new date.

Generally, I would suggest prioritizing getting immigration in order before a trip.

Obviously AOS is really important.  My interview is on the 9th and It's my brother's wedding on the 10th and also I have not seen my family in 1.5 years. But I think I am going to skip the wedding. :)

Yeah. That's what I am worried about. It might take a long time to reschedule given the present backlog with the USCIS.

yeah, thats the downside to all this. Someone may be able to do facebook live or similar so you can be 'there' too. I know when we get married we'll be doing that for friends and family who can't come to the wedding

I know. Waiting for AOS is very hard and anxious. Probably going to postpone the trip. :)

We rescheduled our AOS interview without any issue.  Did it over the phone, got a confirmation number and new date. They also sent confirmation in the mail too so we had a new appointment letter. When we got to the interview,  I apologized for having to reschedule and the interviewer literally waved his hand and said to me “it’s not a big deal”.

We had no problems. We interviewed at Cleveland Ohio office.

He was approved the next day and received his green card within a week after that.

They can give a new date on the phone? That's great. Whom did you ask for on the phone? I might try and call USCIS on Monday.

Yes I just called the phone number on the appointment letter. I didn’t ask for anyone specific.  It was last May 2017. My husband had minor surgery that’s why we had to reschedule.

I think 2017 was better. USCIS is pretty backed up right now. But I will still give them a call. Between, our attorney suggested to attend the interview and postpone the trip. She said the rescheduling might take months.

What about planned surgery?

Use your own judgment on that. If that falls to the category of being sick or emergency then go on reschedule  your appointment.
