I have no income & no assets, will that affect my wife's chance to get a U.S. visa even if she has a joint sponsor?

Hi, I'm a U.S. citizen, my wife is a Filipino citizen. my wife's petition has already been approved by the USCIS, I'm getting ready to send the Affidavits of support and all the supporting documents to the NVC. I have no income and no assets but my wife has a qualified joint sponsor who meets the income required. I have been unemployed for the last 3 years due to my social anxiety disability, I'm only receiving SSI, so I have no earned income. With me having no income and no assets will that affect my wife's chance for approval for a U.S. visa even if she has a joint sponsor? Thanks for your time.

My sister is willing to help support her till she can get a job.

I am curious, you say your wife has a qualified joint sponsor and she is the beneficiary.  Usually it is the USC that gets the joint sponsor.  Is your sister the joint sponsor?

How do you live with no income and no assets? You are going to rely on your sister till your wife gets a job. Why don't you get a job first? What happens if your wife can't find a job? How long will your sister's generosity last? It's more than just an extra plate on the table. There's health insurance, clothes, transport, etc.

Yes, my sister wants to co-sponsor my wife, my sister has good income and earns over the amount required.

I'm renting a house from my friend and I receive SSI, I'm going to try to get a job where my sister works.

My sister is my wife's co-sponsor. I was told the U.S. Embassy in Manila will accept co-sponsors for spouse visas.

You should get a job to support your wife. It looks like you have no trouble using a computer and you are obviously literate. I'm guessing you met your wife online and you are submitting hours and hours of chat logs and messages in support of your application. Most office jobs don't involve much more than typing and using a phone. Many companies now hire home-based customer service agents who abswer email queries from customers all day long. Have you considered that? It must be soul-destroying to be living on assistance.

The answer to your question is no it will not. although you still should have FILED taxes even if you OWED nothing.

 

The bigger issue with myself, and many (I'm sure) is that you seem to be expecting your wife to support you (and coming on a CR1 she will be able to work immediately).

 

I have social anxiety. I still manage to work. I've supported myself and my children my entire life. I've simply managed to find a career where I dont have to deal with people in person. And even when i HAVE had jobs where i had to 'people' every day ... i sucked it up cause thats what ya got to do sometimes. I had one lousy husband refuse to work and that was enough for me. Trust me, even if she says she doesnt mind, over time, resentment will build, especially if your anxiety is selective and you can go and do the things you WANT to go and do. I dont WANT to work at all but I rather like being self sufficient and not relying on anyone to 'take care of me'. So... work it is.

 

It's not fair to your wife to put that burden on her (what kind of work experience/education does she have? How will that transfer over here?) or to the co sponsor. Why dont you find a job NOW instead of waiting? what are you waiting FOR?

 

Personally I think co sponsors should be allowed in only a few cases and not as a 'this is the only way we can ever do this cause i can never work or make enough money' type thing. but thats me. I would never co sponsor someone in that type of scenario.

To clarify a few things. This is not how it works. YOU are responsible for your wife. US will want to see how you will take care of your wife in the long run. Your sister is not responsible for her. She can help by being a joint sponsor, but she can’t be the primary sponsor.
