Changing embassy

Hello!

 

I am going batty and need advice/reassurance. 

 

I am a dual citizen of the UK and Australia. I was born in the UK and moved to Australia at 3 months and my family live in Australia. In Feb 2018 when I filed the K1 Fiance visa I was working in England put the embassy for interview as London. In July 2018 I decided I wanted to come back to Australia and have my interview/med in Australia and see my family before I move to the USA.

 

In July 2018 my partner contacted USCIS about changing my embassy from London to Sydney. They told him I had to contact the London embassy. I contacted the London embassy by email, they said I needed to contact Sydney. I contacted Sydney by email who said 'yes thats fine, you can change your embassy to Sydney'. I then contacted Sydney again early September 2018 just to make sure and they said "The USCIS and London embassy are aware you wish to change embassy's". Ok.. sounds good.

 

Queue 21st September 2018 and my partner receives NOA2 in the mail (approved YAY) - but with the consulate listed as London. I immediately email the Sydney embassy who now say 'you need to ask NVC to change the embassy'. I emailed the NVC expedite email and they hit me back with the 'we havent received your case' yet... tried again a week later and same response.

 

Two weeks later 8th October 2018 my partner phones the NVC and they give him our case number.. #LND. So our case is assigned to London. The person on the phone tells him I have to email NVC to change embassys. I've emailed the 'asknvc' 3 times and haven't had a response. Tried the expedite email and got a 'this isnt the correct email' response. 

 

On CEAC my case is listed as "At NVC" still. Does anyone know the process? I'm scared the NVC are going to send all my paperwork to London, who will then take more time to have to send it all to Sydney instead of just sending it to Sydney in the first place like I requested months ago to save this from happening 😐 

 

And one final question - just looking on the website and it says the NVC will send a welcome letter in the mail. Is this letter different from the NOA2 we received on the 21st September?

If your case is not on the way to the embassy yet, changing Embassy's should not cause delays. Your USC fiance simply contacts NVC via email and gives them the information below.

 

Remember that you need to be a legal resident in the country you want to do your medical and interview in.

 

Address an email from the petitioner to NVCINQUIRY@state.gov

Subject: Beneficiaries Case number / Beneficiaries name / Change of interview location

In the memo area (Where your write the normal email).

1. Beneficiaries case number

2. Beneficiaries full name

3. Beneficiaries date of birth

4. Petitioners Full name

5. Petitioners Date of birth

 

Sir or Ma'am,

I would like to request my beneficiaries interview location change to (Put your local embassy here) due to that being his/her work country. Attached is a copy of the scanned biographic page, and the visa page showing they live in that country.

The address of the beneficiary is;

Beneficiaries address in that country.

The phone number of the beneficiary is; (Your Phone number).

The phone number of the petitioner is: (Petitioners phone number).

 

The petitioners full name

The petitioners phone number

The petitioners address

Include the scanned copies of the Biographic page, and the Visa page as attachments (PDF or JPG preferred).

I just received the email today that it has been sent to Sydney.

 

The only thing I would suggest for people changing embassy is to fill out the online public inquiry form rather than send the email directly to asknvc. I know it's not a huge difference but that's what the NVC told us to do and it seemed to work quicker than all the emails I sent requesting to change embassy.

 

Also I had to include a picture of my Australian passport showing I am a citizen in Australia.

Hello - it is here:

Fill it all the area's,  then attach proof that you can have the interview in the other country/location you want (i.e. passport, birth certif etc).

 

They will reply to you by email, it took them about a week to reply to mine which was nerve wracking but at least it worked and I got the embassy changed!

How many day after NOA2 you sent them a request to change the consulate? 

It takes about a week for them to respond. Is it too late? Because I am afraid that they will assign the case number before they read the request.

I would say wait 10 days to make sure NVC has received your case. Otherwise if you request to change embassy before they get the case they will just keep telling you "we have not received your case"

 

Phone NVC and request your case number. If they have it and have assigned it then you need to fill out the public enquiry form.

 

Dont worry, they already assigned mine to London, but I filled out the public enquiry form straight away and they reassigned it to Sydney.

Hi all! I'm a French citizen living and working in Canada. The consulate here is known to be very slow, unlike the one in France. I'm wondering if I'll be able to change embassy and do my interview in France to save time. Do I need to be living there or is being a citizen enough? Does anybody have proofs of it either way? I've been looking on the USCIS website to make sure but haven't found anything so far. Thank you!

I dont think you need to be living in France, but you will need to give a reason why you want to go back to France do your interview there. You could just say that you are going to visit family/friends and you have all your documents (birth certificate/vaccination records etc) in France. You will need to show you are a citizen so send a copy of your passport. You can only really do this once you receive NOA2 in my experience. 

 

To be honest the hassle of changing embassy might not be worth it. You might be better off just waiting for an interview in Canada. I tried to get ahead of the game and request changing my embassy before i got NOA2 and it didn't work, when we received NOA2 it was still issued to London instead of Sydney. They still messed about and took longer to change my embassy from London to Sydney. But I had all my documents in Sydney so it was worth it for me to change.

Thanks for sharing your experience  how long did it take for them to make the changes? In Canada it seems to take 5 to 8 months from NOA2 to interview, as opposed to 4 in France. So this, in addition to getting to see my family, might be worth it but it's a gamble. It seems like other people managed to have their embassy changed rather quickly...

Ooh that is a really long time to wait for an interview in Canada.

 

So what you could do is first make sure the French embassy accepts your request to change your interview to France instead of Canada. To do this would mean contacting the French embassy. I would use this form:

Just say to them that you are a French citizen residing in Canada who has applied for a CR1 VISA and would like to change your consulate from Canada to France. 

Provide your WAC receipt number, full name of beneficiary & petitioner in the form.

Let them know that you can provide a copy of your French passport.

 

Wait until they respond and see what they say! x
