Finding a job at States

Just curious, how long did you take to find a job at States after get your EAD/Green Card?

Depends mostly on the type of job, education, work history, region, etc.

My wife had a job within 1 month of EAD arrival, but she's an RN which is in very high demand in my area.

The job market is doing well in most areas so strike while the iron's hot.

Like above. Everyone is different, from education to what type of job and pay they desire, to even where they live regionally, ect.

 

My husband has a bachelors, and some US work experience and references from internships before, but even he had to apply to 4-5 places and do a couple interviews and still took a "training entry level" position over a management position at first.

 

Then he found another company that would give him the type of position he wanted and moved over to that company after 3-4 months and been there for little over a year now.

 

Total time still maybe took him 3-4 weeks to find something.

 

Sometimes you may have to take a "lower" position at first and work your way up or just gain US experience then move on somewhere else. Depends how picky you want to be about it too.

My fiance hasnt even MOVED HERE yet and has a job lined up for when he does eventually get his EAD. On top of that, because of his trade, he can also choose to work with the union (hes already established contacts with the local union here and is a well known member in the union where he is now and he can basically 'transfer over') which provides steady and consistent work, once he is able to.

 

It all depends on your skills and background and how 'in demand' they are. (and having a spouse with contacts can also work in your favor lol   )

I got my job before I moved here. I was interviewed and assessed by Skype and through online assessments. It helped that I had 17 years of experience already in the same field. I received the job offer 1 week before my embassy interview. After I was approved at interview I mailed off my acceptance of the offer. I was working less than 2 weeks after I got off the plane.

Once I started looking it was about an hour before the first company called me.  I had a job within a few weeks. But I had a bunch of experience.  Since I've lived here I've been without a job for 2 weeks at most.

That is amazing. Got my green card recently and still finding a job. There are few company who don't want to hire immigrant. Once they ask why you leave previous company, I answer truthfully. They said, I'm sorry, but we prefer citizen. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

Oh wow! That is incredible! I wish I had lots of year of experience. Looking forward to start work soon. Staying at home make me feel bored

I don't think my field is "in demand" here. My previous company asking whether I'm interested working with any branches located at here. However, it is far away from here. Must be awesome if it is nearby. 😔

I'm trying to find a lower position instead of management position because I only have 4 years experience in accounting. However, some of the company refuse to proceed once they know I'm only permanent resident not citizen.

I guess, in our area it is not doing well then. 😔😔😔😔😔😔 Not living in urban area make it more difficult.

Likely this is mostly your issue.  I havent been more than a 30 minute drive from any workplace.  

I started out working at Target here.  Then went to 24 Hour Fitness. Now I work at a vet clinic.  Customer service generally is always seeking.

Dont go looking into management right away.  If your field is accounting then look into book keeping, taxes, banking, data entry, etc..

My husband filled out applications the day he got his EAD card in September. He was offered three of the jobs he applied for, took the one with the highest pay, and began working the next week. No issues. He is also a full time college student so they are thankfully flexible with his class schedule.
