US embassy in Egypt

Hi guys,

We had the interview in September 18th and the officer requested additional information. From me the petitioner she asked for proof that I’m not married which is a legal document we have in Egypt. I had already gotten this document and included it in the package of document sent to the embassy prior to the interview. Despite it being valid for 3 moths and clearly stating that I’ve never been married, she requested another one dated after the interview. She also requested proof of domicile in the US from my fiancé because he lives with me in Egypt.  We asked if this means we are on AP, she said no and that I don’t have to go back for another interview.

We prepared these documents and sent them along with my passport to the embassy the next day.  It’s been 2 weeks now and we haven’t heard anything only that my file is still with the officer via email after several email requests for and update of the case status.

Has anyone experienced something like that?

The embassy here is not supportive or helpful. Can anyone recommend next steps, is there anyone we can contact, senators or congressmen, and when do you think we should start that process?

Not much you can do but wait at this point and occasionally check in for updates. They are still reviewing your case. It;s also not uncommon for extended AP due to background checks from Egypt.

A congressperson can request an update (if there is one), but cannot influence any decision or speed one up.

Thank you for your response, so you think we might be on AP even if she said we weren’t? Also occasionally check with the embassy or USCIS website?

Everything after the interview is AP until they refuse or issue a visa (even the act of printing the visa is part of AP).

Check with the embassy. USCIS will only deal with the I-129F, which was already approved by them.

I have the family registration from Abassya. And no where on the paper does it say an expiration. Both Arabic and Translation.

The police report has a expiration date, but my husband and I both don’t see where on the family registration (certificate stating whether you are married or not) that it expires.

For domicile we did US bank account/ investment account and money transfer from Egypt to the USA. My fiancé’s parents house information as a place for us to live till we find our own. I think that’s it we don’t have jobs there yet as we’re living in Egypt.

We have been waiting since August. My husbands interview in August. They asked to proof of domicile. We went that. Then after they asked him to fill out supplements questions doc. Then I emailed and said it was under AP. Months now and heard nothing.

The embassy can put a "self imposed" expiration date and it would not correspond to any document that your country will produce with their own expiration date. The embassy just doesn't want someone who has gotten married while waiting for the visa process to end and are still going through with their K-1 visa which is not the intent of the K-1.
