Good evening everyone. I’m at the phillipines as I’m typing right now spending time with my fiancé and our daughter. Short story anyway my daughter was born out of wedlock she got her USA passport and crba certification earlier this year. Also my fiancé got her anullment and red ribbon.

I need to know step by step to process a k1 visa

i thought about doing rapidvisa but unfortunately I’m in a tight budget. Friend of my told me to just process it my self and it will cost me about 1k-1500$ due to fees and application process.

So therfore visa-journey people’s can you please share your thoughts and help me out?

i really appreciate it!!

thank you

Once you receive your case number it's time to be in charge of what time you choose when things get done. To smooth that trail for you I have a few things that will help you process your visa there in the Philippines.

Start by visiting Hanks site where he has taken the time and research, and of course it helps if you spent 8 plus years helping folks in the Philippines sub-forum get their visas, where he has listed each step. With those steps he includes the what, when and why to completing the item. Many have used the website and have had little or NO problems securing a visa from USEM.

http://www.visaconnection-philippines.com/k-1-visa-application.html

Next you'll want to connect with those who are processing through the Philippines in the VJ Philippines sub-forum that way you will be with like minded ppl who are sharing their experiences and also asking and answering questions. Since most in this thread are processing through another country they would be hard pressed to explain what is needed for the Philippines.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/129-philippines/

You'll find this on Hank's website but I will give it to you early and that is the Packet 3 Letter for USEM. It's found here:

https://ph.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/fiancee-visa/the-interview/

Here is the Packet 3 letter.

https://ph.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/82/2016/08/K1-and-K2-Applicant-Interview-Preparation-Instructions-08112016-English-336KB.pdf

There you have it. Everything you need to get your visa. Good luck and smooth sailing.

Note: The links to VJ Guides are good for the beginning stages of the visa process but once you hit the Embassy interview stage all bets are off. Each Embassy does things a little differently. So using the links above leads you to actual "boots on the ground" information.

Thanks everyone for giving me your advice and all. Only thing is here in the phillipines you can’t jus get married right away it takes couple weeks to set everything up.🤦🏻‍♂️ Otherwise I would of went that route but unfortunately I go back to the states soon 😣

There is a way to get married legally in the Philippines but it requires everything falling into place for you. One item drags to long and you are far beyond the 10 days. If you want information on how to do it, just PM and I'll send you the instructions.

When  the marriage process in a country (i.e. Philippines, Morocco, etc.) is cumbersome, marriage in a visa-free country (i.e. Hong Kong, Macao, etc.) is an alternate option, https://www.passportindex.org/comparebyPassport.php?p1=us&p2=ph&fl=&s=yes

CR1 is better for you. After you get married using K1, adjustment of status is another big expense.

Both options aren't cheap. On the flip side, USCIS now accepts credit cards: https://www.uscis.gov/news/news-releases/uscis-expands-credit-card-payment-option-fees. Also, it's a quick way to get credit card rewards, for applicable credit card programs.

Note: Payment with a credit card is not an option for direct filing at USCIS Manila. Direct filing is only an option if you, the USC, have legal residence in the Philippines.

my fiance visa took exactly 8 months from the say of NOA-1 to the day I'm boarding the plane (next Wednesday), 10 is more like considering RFE, long embassy wait times or issues at NVC. If the process goes smoothly it takes about 8.

It was 10 months for us with nor RFEs or other issues.

Just did my K1 in almost exactly 8 months to the day from NOA1 to Visa in hand with no RFE's or any issues, and a pretty easy case ( No previous marriages, no criminal records, only 2 police certificates needed). But every case is different, though my friend on here filed exactly a week behind me, and has stayed a week behind me thru the whole process, we always joke about playing follow the leader. So 8 months with a well prepared packet is possible.

And the big deciding factor in the K1 from the CR1 is how important is it for your fiancee to be able to work right away. If she isn't planning on working right away there are so many small fees and extra expenses on either visa they are about the same. Everyone thinks wow your saving 1225 dollars by not having to AOS. If your going into this process worried about a thousand dollar difference, you need to think about it again. they are  both expensive. I'll go thru 1000 dollars later tonight on bottle service at club Drai's.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

This comment is unnecessary.

After bringing my husband over here we moved in with my father temporarily until we were able to get on our feet. Shortly after our marriage we got a nice unexpected surprise that I was pregnant! It was a little rough for awhile until my husband was able to start working but here we are 4+ years later in our own place and thriving with our beautiful little girl.

My point is...it's not our place to judge how people start their journeys, rather it is our place to help guide them on their journey.

Good luck to the OP! You found the very best community possible to help you figure this process out!

Of course it's necessary. It's something he needs to consider. I didn't say it's impossible and if you chose to live like that, good for you. But many people just starting out the process are blissfully unaware of how expensive it is and how long the immigrant cannot work if they come here on a K-1. Too many people just look for the quickest way. And the quickest way isn't always the best way. You couldn't pay me enough to do things like that but if that's the choice others make, well - live and let live. That doesn't mean I can't give food for thought as someone who did things differently. It's about choices. Immigration is a long-term decision that requires long-term thinking and planning. You have to think with your head, not just your heart. We owe it to everyone to give both sides of the story so that they can make their choice.

Saying it's not the best start to married life isnt food for thought. So I will agree to disagree that your last comment was a necessary comment. Your previous advice before that comment was very helpful and relevant however.

For USCIS or DOS it does not matter. IDK if you have to follow Philippine law (or the law where the marriage occurs if somewhere else) regarding last name. Maybe ask @Hank_ , @Greenbaum, or @John & Rose

Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline or your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine your Embassy. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Go to the top right of this page select your name (it's on the upper right hand corner)>my profile>[below your picture on the right column] edit my profile. Scroll to the bottom and fill in "Immigration Info". There now we can better serve you.

Thanks

It depends. The name on the passport can be her maiden name or can be her married name. A lot less problems if she changes her name at the wedding and then afterwards change her name on the passport. She still can use her passport with her current name but once married and doesn't change then she has to carry the marriage certificate when ever she travels.

Recently, we have heard of a case that the AOS interviewer would not allow the use of the Philippine naming procedure. He is wrong but the couple decided not to pursue it.
