That's is exactly what we did and I sent him off with all the documents ( ss card, EAD, passport, marriage license) along with the printout. Unfortunately the DMV really knows how to give you a hard time.  I took him to the DMV in Yonkers with the same documents and he was able to do the test, which he passed (yay). 

 

Keep studying, the test is only 20 questions.

You can open a bank account without the EAD/SSN. Bank of America will only ask for your passport. They can even issue you a credit card.

Back when I did it, you would receive your EAD then will go to the SSA office and file for a social security number using the EAD.

Hey all! How long did it take some of you to receive your marriage certificate? Ours was sent Oct 7....still waiting...🤪

We were married in the city and then took the signed license down to city hall ourselves two days after the wedding and received the marriage certificate then and there.  It was a good thing as we wanted to get a certified copy and then an authenticated one so there were more steps (and different buildings) to do.  In the end, I had to go back for the last part the next day as the offices close around 3pm.  We thought it was best to have a few originals and one authenticated, but make sure you know times and amounts and payment types acceptable if you do that.  One place accepted cards and the other didn't, so ended up running around for a money order at the last minute.

Oh what a nightmare. I didn't realize to get certified copies it was such a hassle. We went on a week-long trip upstate the day after the wedding, so we figured if it was sent by our officiant when we left, certainly it would get back to us by the time returned. No such luck. Are you saying that once we get the marriage cert in the mail, we need to go back to city hall anyway to get actual certified copies in order to send in our paperwork?

I did not use certified copies, I just sent a photocopy and so far no RFE and we got the EAD/AP card.

Same here. We sent photocopies  and no RFE so far., got EAD/AP and case status ready to be scheduled for interview.

It too 3 weeks from the day we married to receive our marriage cert. Hang in there, it'll arrive soon!

We mailed in copies with the applications.  However, nyc had the basic version and many times you need a certified version for other items.  Plus thought that would be better to have for the interview as original.  We got an apostille one as well since you never know when that is needed here or abroad for various items.  Wanted to cover all bases whilst I was off work so didn’t have to worry about something at the last time and miss time from work.  I’d rather be overprepared, but I’m a Virgo

Hello People,

I wanted to check-in to this thread and introduce myself.  We submitted our AOS package  from k1 on August 8, 2018 (w/ EAD).  We were re-united at JFK on June 6  and  have checked into  VJ  after an almost 24/7 presence while waiting for NOA2 (horrible experience). 

 

I believe our package was complete and we submitted on August 8.  We have not had any contact from USCIS since her  Biometrics appointment.   It's my understanding that we could get GC around February/March and of course we're hoping for our  Interview to be waiver (wouldn't that be nice).
