Hi @SusieQQQ, I just wanna thank you again for your help, and let you know that following our discussions, I have decided to apply for a re-entry permit (https://www.uscis.gov/i-131). I will plan a few weeks vacation to the US towards the end of October (just before the 1-year Green Card milestone).

What I'm trying to figure out now is where my appointment to the "local" USCIS Application Support Center (ASC) is going to be (once I have filled my i-131 re-entry application form). I'm guessing it will be the close to the address I entered during the DV application process, but I'm wondering whether I could change it, so that I could travel to some other place in the U.S. by the same occasion. I will let you know how it goes, if it helps anyone else on this forum.

AnthonyLondon, Thank you for your information. My sister win the DV-2019, and she has plan to do same your case too. Please let us know too. It's very helpful.

"By by the way, did you file a 2017 tax return with the IRS?"

You never answered this

Very true. This is because I'm stuck on this.

Indeed, I haven't received my SSN (Social Security Number), despite having ticked the related box in my DS-260. Having read a few other forums, this is apparently quite frequent... And I need my SSN to file my tax return.

I have called my local Social Security Office (the closest one from my quoted US Address), but they cannot do anything for me over the phone, I have to go there physically. I have also tried to email them with all my details but didn't get any answer. So I guess that my only option to get my SSN will be to go there physically, which I haven't been able to do yet.

I was planning to file it online through FreeFile (https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free), using the company "H&R Block".

@AnthonyLondon Are you in USA? and you submit I-131 re-entry form already? Everything is all right?

Hi everyone, I just wanted to give some follow-up.

  • I have successfully applied and now received my re-entry permit by submitting the i-131 form.
  • It took a fairly long time (almost 2 months) between the moment I submitted the form and the moment I was invited by the USCIS to a biometrics appointment.
  • Everything seems to be alright so far, I haven't gone back to the US yet, but the next time I do my assumption is that I will have to show both my Green Card & Re-entry permit, until I move there permanently.

But at least, it is giving me an additional period of 2 years to sort things out.

Thanks for the update.

Remember you are required to file tax returns with the irs as a green card holder even if you are living outside the US.
