Why is Houston field office so slow??

My husband filed his I-485 on July 20, 2017. As of mid-October, our status has said, “Your case is ready to be scheduled for an interview.” NO change since then. I looked at the processing times both on this website and on the USCIS and both have Houston taking longer than anywhere in the country. Why??

Oh my goodness! I’m glad to know it’s not just us. I wonder if being closed during Hurricane Harvey really set them back. Also, there are just a ton of immigrants who live here so I’m sure it’s a big backlog. We are probably going to re-apply for his work and travel card soon.

I am sure Harvey is one of the few factors, how can it not be

I need some people to start getting their interviews scheduled for Houston to get some hope in the process at least.

Philadelphia AOS filer here. Estimate: 11-32 months.

 

The reasons aren't exactly known, but usually it's primary due to the number of applicants in an area. Large immigrant-heavy city centers (and those who fall under the jurisdiction of those) got hit really hard. While the hurricane likely had some role, that's on a scale of days to weeks of a backup IMO.

No hurricanes in Arizona and they say 14-22 months here!!

 

So if it takes 14-22 months for normally a 3 month process can we expect that the 3 year process of citizenship will take 14-22 years?!!!

 

Back in January I called USCIS info line and was directed to an automated system. I went through the procedures and selected more info for "outside normal processing times". On June 6 (more than 6 months later) we got an automated email response that said "Due to work load factors not related to your case, USCIS anticipates a delay in completing your case....." LOL No chit!

 

This is what happens when there is no accountability, no one can get fired and all is done in secrecy!

 

I have asked my Congressman why this is happening and am waiting for answers and let you know if I get any. I'm not holding my breath.

 

As an American citizen I find this unacceptable!

The processing times for family based apps out of Houston currently say 16.5 to 30.5 months, so we are in for a long wait. I’ve heard that employment based applicants are now being called in to interviews (where previously they did not) and that has caused a huge backlog in family based visas. We are at 12 months and my husband just applied to renew his work card that expires in October.

My RD is 10/4/17. I have not received my EAD. 

 

7/31/18: Case Tracker: Case is ready to be scheduled for interview. 

 

When should I expect an interview letter in the mail?

We filed on July 21, 2017 and our case has been “ready to be scheduled for an interview” since 10/17/17 and still nothing. 🙃 Get ready for a long wait.
