I hired a really really good lawyer who reviewed all my competed AoS forms and supporting evidence for $500. Was totally worth the peace of mind and he did catch stuff I may have not caught on my own

It's ultimately up to you. If it's worth the peace of mind, or if there are some complicating factors that many others may not have, which you would feel better someone giving a solid, educated once over on.

There are plenty of people who have completed AOS - and the entire visa process, at that - without a lawyer successfully, so it's not impossible to do it yourself.

Håll ut, y'all.

Avoid lawyers at all costs unless your forced to hire one. The only thing they add is cooks to the kitchen to do things like inverse your street address numbers you took the time to fill correctly first. you have 1 case they have 80 and minimum wage paralegals in employ who actually do the work. Lawyers have absolutely no special channel into the immigration system. They can only do what you can do yourself, but with less self interest involved. I paid 3k and the only 1 good thing they did(as well as many many bad) was to create a cover exhibits page and then list each item by the exhibit letters, my 129-f had an exhibit A separator page for example. Add an introductory exhibits page yourself save the cash, also save the frustration ironically.

I couldn't agree more with this post. I also hired a lawyer and when I read the copies of the forms they sent I realized they've made some tiny mistakes in the dates and places I've lived in, that I haven't done when I filled them out. Moreover, I asked them how to request to expedite a decision and their answer was to direct me to the USCIS website.

If you're a meticulous person, do it yourself. You'll make sure everything is filled out correctly (like addresses and dates) and save money.
