Hi Everyone,

I have a question and I'm confused and i fear this is going to delay our process even further.

My fiancé had a medical Last week on May 7th. His medical went well, he got his vaccines, did blood work, X-rays, urine test. Everything went smoothly. After the very long medical exam they told him that he's all set for his interview and needs to get MMR vaccine when he arrives to the states.

Fast forward to today- His interview is on May 17th. He gets a call from the hospital and they said that he has to see a psychiatric. Why? they won't say.

I didn't  even know anything about a psychiatric- I had to google and stumbled upon threads on Visa Journey about weed being associated with that. Then quickly made an account to ask this question.

My Fiance doesn't smoke, he never has. He grew up in a strict household which forbidden weed smoking. The urine test they gave him came back negative, and he did not admit to using weed. A week after is when they are saying he has to see a psych. Does anyone know why?

But i just realized that is it because he has locs? Mid length locs. that he has been growing for two years. He is not rasta either. He corrects people when they call him a rasta but always with love and respect.  I even have eaten pork and beef with him on several occasions.

I read that they profile people who have locs. Ugh this is too much. But a week later?

First, you should complete your profile/timeline so your post can go to the JA portal where others familiar with that embassy can see it. Second, it’s possible they stereotyped him bc of the dreads but they also have other ways of recognizing, as Jamaicans grind the weed in their hands. My husband has dreads and had no prob, although I too was worried abt him being stereotyped. Are you sure he has never smoked weed? Just asking bc if he has and lies it could create a bigger problem. If they were profiling him not sure why they would wait a week when they could’ve said that sooner. Everything is subjective to the person judging (meaning depending on the physician and what they think).

They in fact were profiling him. He picked up the letter today and the letter stated that they "suspect" that he smokes weed. Even after a blood test and two urine test, & no admission. The week wait is what was very shocking. I was hoping the Medical results would of been sent in to the embassy already. So clearly its gonna be delayed now.

I also was analyzing - and he still has a VIP a cloth wrist ban on his wrist from a week long festival in Negril two  weeks ago  and that wrist ban has standard Jamaican/Rasta colors. He had it on during the medical too so that added to it.

That’s why I said everything is subjective to the person doing the examination. Such a shame that they do that. And after 3 tests that should’ve been proof enough to dispel their suspicions. Sorry you have to experience that. Still create a profile so that your future posts can be directed to the JA portal. This website is a big help in going through the process. Also, do a search on here to see if anyone else has experienced this.  Hopefully you can find some answers on how to proceed with the info you have. Wish you all the best.

I wonder if weed gets in his system through second hand smoke.  Especially if he attended a festival where there was a lot of people smoking.  Please keep us posted.
