Judicial oath ceremony

How long does it take to get a judicial oath ceremony in Atlanta ? Can I withdraw my name change now so I can get it faster if the Atlanta judicial oath is slow? I’ve read that people have been waiting for a year or more? Is that true ?

You would need to inform USCIS about withdrawing the name change through an infopass appointment.  They would be able to withdraw the name change only if USCIS has not yet submitted paperwork to the court handling your oath ceremony.  If they have already submitted the paperwork for the name change, and the certificate has already been issued in advance of your ceremony, then you won't be able to withdraw it now. 

 

Afterwards (if you are able to withdraw it), submitting the withdrawal of the name change would result in the time it takes your field office receiving the request, time for processing the request, time for putting you back in line for oath scheduling, and then time to actually put you into a ceremony slot-----all of which would most likely result in waiting longer than you already have been, depending on where you are in the queue right now.

 

Not doing the name change doesn't necessarily result in getting a faster oath date, either.  There are people who wait months for the "regular" ceremony as well.

Atlanta has 3 to 4 ceremonies a week. Judicial is once a month. Not to mention I am unsure how many people they let take the oath each time. 

 

Would it seriously not not be faster for Atlanta?

Just a week. However, it’s been 5 months since my interview, which was a year after my application was submitted. I just don’t want to wait another year trying to get a judicial name change.

Both events only seem to happen after I relentlessly called and asked for information.

It more than likely won't take a year for you to have your oath.

Will take more than one week, though, of course---hope you hear something sooner than later.

Have you called USCIS to speak with an L2 officer and inquired about your case/oath status?

If not, call them and verify with an L2 officer (not just the person answering the phone) who can look into your case just to make sure you are still  inline and the letter wasn't sent out and not received by you.

 

As for the name change, the advice I gave in a previous post on this page still applies.

Yes. They told me to contact the field office directly which is what I will do in two weeks. But I still wonder if I should withdraw.

Getting infopass appointment is hard. They fill up fast. So far 3 judicial ceremonies have taken place. I doubt so many people change their names do it seems like they are just dragging it because they can. I just need to know what I should write to change the name change.

Went to the field office. They asked me to wait. It’s been three months. 7 months since my interview.

I'm still debating about the name change. My interview is next week. The funny thing is that i want to change just one letter in my name.... not sure if it's worth the wait. Although, i'm in Detroit, hopefully it will be faster. Good luck!
