Hey everyone,

Follow up question to another thread I posted while back (big thanks to all those helped!!!!)

so my follow up question,

I’m currently in a long distance relationship with my German gf, and still have contact with my ex because we have known each for so long and remain friends. My question is, when it comes to file for the K1, will this be a red flag that I still have contact with my ex?

I am the American petitioner by the way.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read and answer.

Did you file for a visa for your ex or something?

It is not likely but there have been a few threads on here where the ex did come up in the interview. More documents were needed to prove that they were no longer together. If I remember right one member needed to get a divorce because they live common law.

I live in a state where common law is not recognized. We also don’t have joint bank accounts.

Don't see it as a problem, imho.

How friendly is friendly? Are children involved? If children are involved then it's better to be on good terms with an ex for the sake of the children. But even if there aren't, occasional casual communication with an ex shouldn't be a problem. I was married for almost 12 years to my ex-husband and we divorced on friendly terms. We are still in contact a few times a year. But if the friendship is more than that then there may be questions. Does your current girlfriend know that you are still in contact with your ex?

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Thanks for your reply!

No, we don’t have children. I have my own residence. We just communicate here and there. But have to watch her dogs when she’s away. Yes my current foreign gf is aware.
