Worried about timeframe for I-131 (travel document) with pending AOS

Hey there, folks.

I have a pending I-131 (travel document) for travel that I've got planned next month for the holidays. I filed the document request along with the EAD and AOS papers, and received a NOA1 on June 15th, 2017. This seems like plenty of advanced notice (6 months).

I still have not recieved any update on my case. I called customer support and they said it went to the National Benefits Center and referred me to their processing times. Their support was completely unhelpful.

The I-131 form is handled by so many different service centers, so I'm not sure what the correct processing time to look at is. The NBC says they're processing up to September, which would have already passed me. The I-131 was sent to the Chicago lockbox along with my AOS and EAD.

Where's your local office?  Some cities have MUCH longer back logs than others.

E: TO be clear, after the Chicago lockbox, it is sent to your local office.  Which USCIS office is closest to you?  Your profile isn't filled in so I couldn't find out.

Is it based on city?

It would be processed at the SLC office.

Thanks!

Edit — not seeing anything mentioned on USCIS site for I-131 processing times for the Salt Lake City, UT field office, only AOS. I'm not sure where the AP/EAD goes to?

Right. I'm aware the AOS will take a while, but I'm more worried about the AP (travel document)

Yes, but your local office needs to set up the biometrics.  So if they are backlogged, it takes awhile.  SLC seems to be a city that moves very slowly on immigration by the stats of last 365 days.  Your local office will be the one issuing the AP from what I have researched.  That's why you can actually go to your local office, with critical evidence to expediate AP if say you had a death in the family or something.

Ah, thanks. We already did biometrics a couple months ago. Wasn't expecting the AP to take this long. I don't think it would qualify for an expedite, as it's not for family emergency, etc.

Ahh okay.  I was under assumption, by your first post, that all that has happened was NOA1 and nothing since.  Including no biometrics yet at your local office.

So if you had Biometrics done, your info is already in the system.  And you said you called your local office to inquire about it?

It very well may be a case of just the SLC office moving as slow as a snail as seen from the stats.

I can't remember the exact date we did biometrics, but it's been a while. When I check the AP case status online, it basically just says it's been accepted (NOA1), but nothing since then. Not worried about the overall AOS timeframe, since I know that's going to take a while.

I called the national customer service line, and they were pretty unhelpful (read from a script, just told me word-for-word what it said on my case status). Would my local field office be able to check the case status of give a better idea of processing times if I call them? Seems like contacting USCIS in any way is generally discouraged.

Dumb question, but how do I contact the local office? Phone number listed online is the national 800 number.

On the field office site, no contact number is listed. I checked for appointments and there's no appointment slots available in the next 14 days (not a single one). So hard to contact anyone!

We filed AOS on June 5, 2017. NOA1 was June 9. We called USCIS in October and 10 days later did an email inquiry on October 22nd or so. Inquiry was completed on October 25th and EAD card was mailed on October 25th. I would suggest doing an email inquiry. Go to the USCIS website and the instructions are there.  144 days for us.

You can do an online service request or an infopass at your local office (or both.)  When calling the USCIS be sure to speak only to a tier 2 or ISO.  The CSR can only see what you see and they are completely unhelpful.

Thanks. I did an inquiry and it was completely unhelpful — I just received notice that it was being processed.

All InfoPass appointments at my local office have been filled for the next 14 days every time I try :(

I might give calling the USCIS customer service line another try and asking for a Tier 2 or ISO.
