Firearms account for close to 70% of homicides per year on average in the USA. That's more than twice as many as homicides committed by vehicles, blunt objects, knifes, hands, fists, feet, being thrown out of a window, explosives and poison combined. Might as well stop running from the facts because you can't hide from them.

Beware of this guy

These people were in church, praying to God and it didn't stop them from getting mowed down. There wasn't even a good guy with a gun.

Actually there was. But whatever right

And what percent of those are so called assault weapons.

Don't need CC holders in other first world countries.

Apparently there was someone with a gun who engaged with the terrorist, which goes to show that even with a good gun present, this was the worst such incident in Texas history.

Once again, more guns proved not to be the solution for this type of homegrown terrorism.

More unverified assumptions, apparently. Denial is the first stage, and many in our nation are trying to absorb another tragedy in such a short period of time.

The terrorist's profile states he was involved in church school. He was probably one of the congregation at some point, perhaps?

Were it not for a local resident who confronted the gunman, the deadliest shooting in Texas history could have claimed even more lives.

At a news conference Sunday night, investigators offered a preliminary timeline of the attack at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs and laid out the role the resident played.

The gunman entered the small church in the rural town east of San Antonio, firing with an assault weapon at the congregation attending the morning service.

A man who lives next to the church grabbed his own rifle and engaged the gunman, said Freeman Martin, the regional director of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

"The suspect dropped his rifle, which was a Ruger AR assault-type rifle and fled from the church," Martin said.

The man then chased the gunman, Martin said.

When police spotted the suspect's vehicle a short time later at the county line, they found the gunman inside -- dead of a bullet wound.

"At this time, we don't know if it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound or if he was shot by the local resident," Martin said.

Not at all surprising. It's easier to mock the death of the victims of the tragedy, as Cernovich and others do, than to admit they can't make a rational argument. It offers a mirror into the state of mind of the shooter.

In other first world countries there wouldn't be a need to have a local resident to chase off a guy with a gun when that guy had already killed 20+ people in the congregation in a matter of seconds. Access to firearms is so easy in this country and it is why there are so many mass shootings and death by guns. Stricter policies in Europe/Australia/Japan these events are very rare. This guy in 15 seconds did more damage than what has occurred in the UK during an entire year.
