I've never heard that stat, but i gotta say sounds bout right! Im actually planning on going for sure, it just well I worry, its what I do lol. thanks for the encouragement : )

We  (my fiance and I) talked about the question "how do you communicate" and the truth is....we talk in English, French and German. I was there for the interview...they started his interview in English but he requested French...the interviewer ended up asking questions in Arabic. Your fiance can tell them that she speaks Portuguese and would feel more comfortable doing the interview in Portuguese.

I attended my husband's K-1 interview in Rio.  Although he had taken English classes in Brazil, his English at the time was limited, and I spoke no Portuguese.  I did have 4 years of Spanish in high school, but that was a long time ago.  The first  thing the CO asked was whether to conduct the interview in English or Portuguese.  We agreed it would be best to speak in Portuguese.  There were just a few questions the CO directed at me, and for those he spoke English.  The CO did ask me how we communicated, and I was honest about our language skills, and pointed out we used Google Translate whenever necessary.

The interview went smoothly and his Visa was approved, so don't worry about the language differences.  If you really love each other, that will shine through in the interview.

of course the best advice is from those that have gone thru your embassy but others will chime in to give you additional advice and evidence as even in embassies things change (staff changes and the government changes rules )

in Morocco they say can interview in arabic, French or English

they don't expect mothers and older people visiting family in the US to know English

but they do expect a CR1 or K1 beneficary to be able to speak, read and wirte English so it is best for the interviewee to do the interview in English/ they even ask where did you learn English and make you prove it

in Brazil, no idea how this embassy views it,  it can be same as Morocco or different

just letting you know what may be in store

we all feel the requirements should be the same embassy to embassy but they aren't

good luck

public forum

we all have been through the process / just learn from us

Hi @NateAndJessica...just adding to what others already said, your beneficiary will be fine. The US Agents are for the most part very welcoming and do a good job in letting you comfortable while interviewing. Few months back while attending my interview I say many people being asked in which language they wanned their interview etc and lots of them did in their native Portuguese including me. So dont be concerned she will fine and in US with you soon. I would be more concerned about all the paper work she has to take to the US Embassy, Appointment schedule etc....make sure you really have all the docs and be there 15 to 20 mins before.....She will be asked to read and sign some papers before the interview.

Feel free to always ask questions, will always be happy to help.
